Love Island is finally back on our screens and with it many hopefuls are looking to meet their match on paper.
With many of the past contestants going on to have successful relationships (and marriages and babies in some cases) there’s no doubt why we’re so invested.
There’s one Love Island romance that we didn’t see unfold on camera that really shows how loved up people can be – of course we’re talking about the voice of Love Island himself Iain Stirling and his wife Laura Whitmore.
Laura and Iain have been dating for almost four years, with her going on to host the show her husband is recognised for.
Not only have they fallen in love, but they’ve shown their fans just how loved up they are with their dog, house, baby and secret wedding!
We’ve taken a closer look at their relationship over the years…
The duo met in 2016 at an ITV party where it is claimed that they “hit it off instantly” by a source at The Sun. With them both working in the same industry, it’s no surprise that they already shared lots of mutual friends.
It’s July the following year that the news broke that they pair had a romance blossoming between them, with a source telling The Sun that Laura and Iain had defined their relationship.
They told the paper: “They kept the relationship private to give it the best possible chance, but it’s well known in their close circle of friends how happy they are, they are very much in love and are boyfriend and girlfriend.”
One month later, in August 2017 Laura confirmed the relationship between the two stars at a restaurant launch, she said: “Yeah he’s my boyfriend. He’s lovely. I’ve got him as my screensaver. I’ve known him for ages.”
And from there it only got more official. Iain started to make appearances on Laura’s Instagram Stories, showing the pair enjoying each other’s company.
It’s September 2017 that their romance is impossible to miss as she posts a sweet snap of them kissing on a trip to New York.
Laura opened up a year into their relationship, in July 2018, to Fabulous about how she had visited Iain in Majorca when Love Island was being filmed the year before and how she thought that they were subtle.
She said: “We tried to keep it as quiet as possible at the beginning, I remember going to Majorca last year and not telling anyone, even though I know most of the crew.
“If anyone had seen me they’d be like, ‘What the hell is Laura doing here?’ I thought nobody knew, but it turned out everyone did. At the time I was like, ‘We totally got away with that’.
“We’d been together for four or five months before we put anything on our social media. I think at that point we were both like, ‘Should we just own it?’ And then once you put it out there, no one gives a s**t. People only care when they don’t know something.”
And from that it only got more serious – the pair moved in together in December 2018, with a source telling The Sun: “They haven’t been together too long but she wanted to buy a house. It’s their relationship getting more serious. Because of their busy jobs they don’t get to spend a lot of time together but this will mean they will see a lot more of each other. They are very steady as a couple and it is the natural next step.”
It doesn’t stop there, the happy couple continue to be goals as they flirted in their announcement posts regarding working together on the hit dating show Love Island.
Iain shared doting posts for his beloved and their pet dog, Mick, as he referred to her (and the pooch) as his “favourite people”.
The gushing couple have definitely had us swooning over the years with their outright adoration of each other.
Speaking on JD’s In The Duffle Bag podcast, Laura revealed in March 2020 that it had taken them almost a year of messaging each other before they finally went on a date.
“When we first met he didn’t even hit on me, he was too nervous to hit on me! I think he was intimidated by me. I remember Iain was too scared to ask me out so in the end I had to ask him out,” she told JD’s In The Duffle Bag podcast.
“He used to send me random messages, DM me and ask me about my dog. It took nine months but we got there! I was like ‘let’s just go for a drink’. I think I had to make the moves on him.”
Laura has quite publicly made it known that she enjoys her privacy, so it was a surprise when she informed Instagram that the happy couple had a baby on the way for 2021.
And it wasn’t just a baby! In January this year, Laura spilled the beans that she had actually gotten married.
Sharing a post from their wedding, with Laura opting for a white suit rather than a dress, Laura wrote: “A year ago Iain asked me to marry him and we had the most magical, perfect ceremony. We loved having it to ourselves.”
In April she confirmed the news that their baby had been born with an Instagram post, telling her followers that they are “in love”.
The relationship goals couple will be back on our screens (and in our ears) from Monday, when Love Island returns for the latest season.
