Australian Jason Donovan has built up a huge net worth after a long career spanning around 40 years in showbiz.
The actor and singer shot to fame on popular Australian soap opera Neighbours, where he first appeared as Scott Robinson in 1986.
His first TV appearance was in 1980 at the young age of 11. He featured on the Australian series Skyways and his on-screen sister was portrayed by future acting and singing partner, as well as an on and off-screen love interest Kylie Minogue, who also boasts an incredible wealth.
He then had a successful pop career and has had three number one singles in the UK with Especially For You, a duet with Kylie in 1988, Too Many Broken Hearts in 1989 and Any Dream Will Do as part of his role as Joseph on Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat in 1991.
His album, Ten Good Reasons, released in 1989, went to the top of the UK’s album charts.
So how much is the star worth?
Jason Donovan’s net worth
His estimated net worth, according to Celebrity Net Worth, is around £7.2 million.
With a long career on stage and screen behind him, Donovan has been able to make use of his fortune to expand his fortune, by occasionally touring with the songs that made him famous and picking up the odd acting job.
He now owns a house in Notting Hill.
More recently, he competed in the 13th series of Dancing on Ice alongside the likes of Colin Jackson, Denise van Outen and eventual winner Sonny Jay. Donovan was forced to withdraw from the competition.
It still remains the case, however, that he is best known for his role on Neighbours and as Andrew Lloyd Webber’s leading man in one of his more successful musicals. Donovan played Joseph in London’s west end on stage at the Palladium.
He returned to the show in 2019, this time playing the Pharaoh.
He currently presents a three hour show on Heart Radio every Sunday from 7pm called ‘Jason Donovan’s 80’s Rewind’.
Personal life and drug addiction
Like many stars who hit fame from a young age, Donovan turned to drugs to cope with the limelight during the 1990s.
He said in his 2007 autobiography: “I’d tried to party with the big boys, tried to be so very rock and roll, but all I had done was make a complete f*****g idiot of myself. Who was I trying to fool? There was nothing rock and roll about me.”
He was dropped from his record label in 1994 and turned to partying.
He later told The Guardian: “I’m a survivor and I’ve made mistakes. No life is perfect. When you’re young, you’re fearless, and then you realise how fragile we actually are. It’s not about necessarily having chart success or the most successful this or that.
“I take comfort in the fact that every career has its ups and downs and, as you get older, you think: how many bedrooms in a house do you actually need? I don’t need to show anything off.”
Donovan is married to Angela Malloch, with whom he has three children.
