Author JK Rowling has mocked a troll for threatening to send her a “pipe bomb” over her views on transgender women.
The Harry Potter author screenshot the message from Twitter and shared it for her 14 million followers on Monday.
It read: “I wish you a very nice pipe bomb in mailbox”.
Captioning the comment, Rowling quipped: “To be fair, when you can’t get a woman sacked, arrested or dropped by her publisher, and cancelling her only made her book sales go up, there’s really only one place to go.”
Another follower asked: “Is this still because of her comments about the safety of women in toilets/changing rooms if men can use them by simply saying they identify as a woman?”
The 55-year-old replied: “Yes, but now hundreds of trans activists have threatened to beat, rape, assassinate and bomb me I’ve realised this movement poses no risk to women whatsoever.”
Rowling was accused of transphobia last year when she replied to an article with the headline: “Opinion: Creating a more equal post Covid-19 world for people who menstruate.”
She tweeted: “‘People who menstruate’. I’m sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?”
Her comments caused widespread backlash, including the from Harry Potter stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Eddie Redmayne.
After the brief Twitter interaction on Monday, Rowling ended by saying: “Got to get back to my chapter now, but to all the people sending me beautiful, kind, funny and supportive messages, thank you so much.”
The controversy does not appear to have made much of a dent in the success of the author, with her book sales continuing to grow.
Her Cormoran Strike series, which is written under the penname Robert Galbraith, recently hit over 100,000 audio downloads.
However, activists have taken to other methods to show their anger at her comments.
Last year, her golden handprints at a tourist hotspot in Edinburgh were vandalised with red paint, while a trans pride flag was painted nearby.
