Joel Dommett says mega-famous contestant in Masked Dancer 'took him by surprise'

Presenter Joel Dommett definitely seems to be making a name for himself in prime time television, as he gets ready to host The Masked Singer’s even crazier spin-off, The Masked Dancer.

The popular ITV show, which sees mystery singers entertain audiences behind elaborate masks and outfits, will leave fans scratching their heads once again.

This time, viewers – as well as the celebrity judging panel – will have to guess which famous dancer is behind the costume instead.

Speaking to OK! magazine about the new show’s format, Joel revealed that there will definitely be more absurd surprises in the new series.

The presenter explained: “My assumption with The Masked Dancer was that the names would be lesser than The Masked Singer. But I can honestly tell you the names are equal to, if not better. There are some amazing reveals.

“One in particular completely took us all by surprise. You just wouldn’t expect someone like this to do the show. It’s the biggest reaction we’ve had.”

Joel also admitted that he initially had reservations regarding The Masked Dancer because he was sceptical as to whether it would work.

He said: “When I heard about it, my first reaction was the same as everybody else’s: ‘How is this going to work?!’

“I had reservations. Then we started filming it and I realised there’s something completely joyous about it. It’s so wonderful.”

The UK version of The Masked Singer has become a popular show amongst Brits and has certainly kept the nation entertained throughout lockdown.

The last episode of season two saw over nine million people tune in to watch Joss Stone win the show dressed as a charismatic Sausage.

The celebrity judging panel were left stunned as they couldn’t believe it was Joss after several attempts at trying to guess who could be wearing her costume.

Judges Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross, Rita Ora, Mo Gilligan and former winner Nicola Roberts believed Sausage was Sheridan Smith or Stacey Solomon – so the reveal came as a surprise.

The new series of The Masked Dancer will start on Saturday, May 29 at 7pm on ITV.
