TV star Kate Garraway is set to be awarded a gong in the upcoming New Year’s Honours list, according to reports.
The Good Morning Britain presenter is due to be recognised after 32 years in broadcasting, including her heartbreaking documentary about husband Derek Draper’s Covid fight.
A source told The Sun: “She’ll be thrilled and surprised.”
The award will come at the end of a difficult rollercoaster year for the TV host, aged 54.
Kate, who has been working in TV for more than three decades, is likely to receive an MBE or CBE for her contribution to broadcasting, The Sun writes.
Recipients of the gong are sworn to secrecy before the official announcement which is usually revealed later this month.
A source added: “Kate has bravely shared her family’s struggle with the devastating effects of Covd, helping to educate and raise awareness.
“She has spent over 30 years on the frontline of broadcasting and shown true dedication and survival in a tough industry.
“I am sure she will feel truly humbled, thrilled, and surprised to be chosen. This would be the ultimate accolade.”
Kate’s moving documentary Finding Derek, where she allowed TV crews to film life at home and Derek’s battle against long Covid, won a National Television Award in September.
The hour-long ITV special offered a candid account of what her family went through while her husband, a former Labour spin doctor, spent 12 months in hospital fighting the virus.
The family feared he would not survive but he returned home to North London in April this year. He is now continuing his recovery as the longest-surviving Covid patient.
Kate, mum to Darcey, 15, and Billy, 12, is said to be lining up a sequel to the doc.
In October, she told anti-vaxxers they should spend an hour at her house: “because if you knew two shoulds would prevent that happening to somebody you loved, I don’t think you’d be left in any doubt.”
In her best-selling book, called The Power of Hope, the star revealed Prince Charles reached out to her at the beginning of the fight.
She says the Prince of Wales offered the services of a royal physician.
This month Kate said on screen: “Derek will turn to me and say, ‘I love you.’ He is there, he has fought so hard to stay in this world and I’m not giving up on him, ever. He will have moments of clarity, then it’s like he disappears but then he finds a voice.
“It does feel like I’ve walked through a fiery furnace or fell down a rabbit hole. The world went dark and I’m still looking for the light at the end.
“Covid has devastated him, from the top of his head to the tip of his toe. His digestive system, his liver, his heart, his nervous system. We’re pretty sure the inflammation did pass through his brain.
“Fundamentally he is in a terrible state, but look, he’s alive.”
