Katie McGlynn fears never working again after exiting Corrie at the 'wrong time'

Katie McGlynn has expressed her regret after walking away from her Coronation Street character at the wrong time.

The actress took on the role of underwear factory worker Sinead Tinker between 2013 and 2019 before the mother-of-one was at the centre of a devastating cervical cancer storyline.

Sinead sadly died leaving behind her young son and husband, Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard).

However, the 27-year-old actress now reckons that her decision to walk away from the Cobbles could cost her another acting role and fears she might not work again.

Katie, who first appeared on screens on Waterloo Road is currently taking part in Channel 4’s Stand Up and Deliver.

The charity show will see a string of famous faces train to become comedians ahead of performing in front of a live audience.

During her performance, Katie who teamed up with Zoe Lyons said: “For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Katie, I’m 27 and I’m a recovering actress, you probably know me best as Sinead Tinker from Coronation Street.

“My character died from cervical cancer, which of course is very tragic for such a young person, as it meant there’s absolutely no b*****d way I can be written back into the show.”

She went on to say: “I probably couldn’t have picked a better time to be killed off in a soap than in the midst of a global f***ing pandemic.

“When the government was encouraging people to work from home, I thought, ‘How is a Rochdale thespian supposed to do that?’.

“So I got creative and ordered Deliveroo four times a week, just for an audience, so I’d open the door, he’d be stood there with my chicken chow mien and I’d be like, ‘Get out of my pub!’ Wrong soap, the delivery man didn’t clap once.”

Speaking about her routine which she will perform in front of an audience, Katie told The Sun: “I’m completely out of my depth! Because of Covid, I’ve been in my flat for months, so to get on stage and try to make people laugh, I’m out of my depth, I hope I don’t s**t myself!”

Katie added that she isn’t worried about falling at the first comedy hurdle as she will be able to say that she tried her hand at entertaining a live audience.

She is however expecting laughter as her performance will involve swearing, something viewers will not be used to from her as the choice of language is restricted on a soap opera.

Stand Up and Deliver will air on Thursday at 9pm on Channel 4.
