Lily Allen hints she is crying with laughter over Philip and Princess Diana meme

Lily Allen has responded with what appears to be laughter to a meme suggesting Princess Diana is furious over the prospect of Prince Philip entering heaven.

The pop star shared a meme suggesting Diana is fuming following the Queen’s husband’s death as it means he could be joining her.

Alongside it, Lily included a crying-with-laughter emoji, indicating she found it humorous.

Originally the meme was shared on Instagram by the account Saint Hoax and shows a gif of Super Nanny closing a door on a crying toddler.

Shared to the account’s 2.7million followers, it featured a very savage caption to go along with the clip.

The caption read: “Princess Diana when Philip tries to enter heaven.”

Lily, 35, took to the comments to remark: “I’m dead at the Diana one,” which she followed up with the crying-with-laughter emoji.

The star later hit out at trolls who slammed her and accused her of mocking the Duke of Edinburgh’s death.

She took to her official Twitter account to comment on their angry response.

The popstar commented that she was ‘dead’ with laughter over ‘the Diana one’

Lily tweeted: “lot of trolls and bots out tonight.

“#RIP Prince Phillip you would have loved late stage surveillance capitalism.”

Princess Diana and the Duke’s relationship, as being his former daughter-in-law, is said to have stayed positive.

According to letters written to Diana from the Duke, Prince Philip was on good terms with his daughter-in-law when she split from his son Prince Charles, despite what biographies and documentaries claim.

A biography of the Duke released last year claimed Princess Diana had told friends of her dislike for him and had warned her sons to “never shout at anyone the way Prince Philip does”.

But heavily censored letters between father-in-law and daughter-in-law actually suggest they were on good terms when she separated from the Prince of Wales.

The letters, which were revealed at an inquest of the princess and Dodi Al Fayad in 2007, showed that the princess affectionately referred to him as her “Dearest Pa.”

In one letter, sent to Diana in the summer of 1992 just three months after the publication of Morton’s book, the Duke said he would do his “utmost” to help the couple, with the princess replying: “You really do care”, iNews reports.

In another letter from Diana, she wrote: “I would like you to know how much I admire you for the marvellous way in which you have tried to come to terms with this intensely difficult family problem.”

The coroner at the inquest, Lord Justice Scott Baker said he had read the letters in full and there was nothing “unpleasant, nasty or insulting” in them.
