Little Mix has appeared to have taken a swipe at their former bandmate Jesy Nelson in their latest song.
Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall are about to release a new song called Cut You Off, for their newest album Between Us.
The barbed song contains some very pointed lyrics that appear to take aim at Jesy, as they sing about cutting someone off: “To protect my energy”.
They released the name of the track in an Instagram Live last week, where Jade described writing the song as “like therapy”.
”Cut You Off was written a couple of months ago in a session with Lost Boy and Lauren Aquilina.
“It was kind of like a therapy session writing Cut You Off actually,” she told fans. “I love Cut You off because it’s just a really good solid manic pop song.”
Perrie chimed in to add: “You let it all out and it’s a safe space.”
The Sun has revealed some of the lyrics of the upcoming song and speculation has begun to build that they refer to Jesy.
In the track, the girls sing: “How did we get here? We used to be so cool. Nothing lasts forever but I really thought we could.
“I know there’ll be tears but it’s worth the broken heart. If I can’t protect my energy, I gotta cut you off.”
Jesy quit the girl group in December of last year after saying that being part of the band had taken its toll on her mental health.
Fans have quickly started to guess that the song is a dig at Jesy, with one asking: “So is this about Jesy”, while another added: “Imagine this was aimed at Jesy.”
It comes after Jesy confessed that there were “disagreements” between her and her bandmates from time to time as they navigated their careers.
“I had times and moments when I really loved it, but it felt like there were way more times that I was sad than I was happy,” she told the Reign With Josh Smith podcast.
“I don’t think people realise how hard it is to be in a girl band. There’s a lot that comes with it that people don’t know about.
“And obviously I don’t get to make my own decisions. Three people have to agree as well, so there would always be disagreements on certain things.”
