Love Island viewers will all remember Doctor Alex, nurse Rachel Fenton pharmacist Anna Vakili making a name for themselves on previous series, but now it looks like another medical professional could be making their way into the villa this summer.
Junior doctor Toluwa Adepeju who worked 70-hour weeks during the height of the coronavirus pandemic is rumoured to be a contestant on this year’s series of the much-loved dating show.
Avid social media user Toluwa regularly keeps his followers updated on his shifts and informs them of the hours he does while on the frontline.
He once took to Instagram saying: “68 hours in 7/7 days – the long week is finished. All glory be to God.”
As well as openly talking about his shift patterns, Toluwa, 25, has been very vocal about the Covid-19 vaccinations on social media and has urged people to receive their jabs.
Talking about the junior doctor’s appearance on the show, an ITV source said: “He’s led from the very front – in hospital and online, educating people of the risks and the need to get vaccinated.
“He is a perfect pick.
“He’s modest, down to earth and loves what he does.”
The reality show is expected to make a highly anticipated return to our screens this summer, however, ITV have not yet confirmed a decision on who the final line up will be just yet.
Due to the pandemic last year, the dating show was placed on hold as producers could not risk any members of crew or contestants contracting the virus.
It has been reported that although Love Island will return to sunny Majorca this year, there may also be a back-up cast flown out as a Covid-19 precaution, according to MailOnline.
Reports also claim that TV execs have been planning a backup location in Jersey just in case Majorca is off the cards.
Before joining the show, applicants for the new series have been informed that they’ll have to be available for 10 weeks abroad. As well as this, applicants must also undergo a psychological and physical assessment.
According to claims, potential contestants must also have a sexual health screening, a drug test and the cast will have to inform TV bosses if they live with anyone who’s clinically vulnerable. A mental health examination will also take place for new cast members.
