Line of Duty star Martin Compston will never be James Bond because folk will need subtitles to understand him.
Many believe the Scots actor could take over from Daniel Craig as the new 007 after seeing him in action and doing stunts on the BBC cop series.
But while his former colleague Craig Parkinson, who played bent copper Dot Cottan is backing a campaign to make him the next blockbuster secret agent, he fears the star’s thick Scottish accent will scupper his chances.
He told Obsessed With Line of Duty podcast: “Let’s get him in front of Barbara Broccoli at some point.
“But let’s face it she isn’t going to understand him. She is going to need subtitles.
“I have known the man for over ten years and sometimes I need subtitles.”
Compston’s show pal Vicky McClure agreed that he could be the next 007 but laughed: “Don’t kill his dream!”
The late Scottish actor Sean Connery famously played James Bond in seven movies and claimed his accent gave him sex appeal.
Meanwhile, Bridgerton actor Rege-Jean Page is the favourite to be the new Bond after rising to fame as Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings.
Since it was announced that he wouldn’t be appearing alongside his on-screen wife Phoebe Dynevor, who plays Daphne Bridgerton, the odds of him being the next 007 have been slashed.
Page has addressed the speculation after being pitted against the likes of Tom Hardy and James Norton, as he got odds of 5/2 compared to their 3/1.

He said: “Ah, the B word. I think that if you are British and you do anything of note, that other people take notice of, then people will start talking about that.
“I think that’s fairly normal and I’m flattered to be in the category of Brits that people have noticed.
