Former pop star and actor Martin Kemp has revealed he was scared stiff of “obsessive” fans who flew every week from Germany to deliver chocolates to him personally.
The Spandau Ballet bassist and singer shot to fame in the 1980s with the popular new wave band.
And speaking to presenter Jonathan Ross about some of his weirdest experiences at the height of his fame, 59-year-old Martin admitted two women hand-delivering sweet treats was as bizarre as it came.
“Obsessive, some of them,” admitted Martin, who appears on Saturday night’s The Jonathan Ross Show alongside his son Roman.
And radio DJ Roman revealed he had “vivid” memories of when two “very pleasant” women would knock on the family door and try and deliver their gifts to his famous dad.
“They would turn up with chocolates every week to our house,” recalled Roman.
“I have this very vivid memory of having these two very pleasant women who would fly every week from Germany to our front door.”
Martin jumped in and joked: “Listen, I learnt a long time ago you never eat anything that anyone gives you.”
Growing up with a famous dad could have been tough to deal with, but I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! star Roman has taken it all in his stride, despite his dad meeting a fatal end in five of his acting roles.

“You know no different, this is what your life is and what you’ve grown up with,” revealed Capital FM presenter Roman, 28.
“There are moments in your childhood when you start to realise, my dad is someone. I’ve seen my dad die in five different ways, in movies. That’s odd.”
Spandau Ballet formed in 1979 and enjoyed worldwide success until they called it quits in 1990.
Martin went on to find success in BBC one hit soap EastEnders as the villain Steve Owen, as well as a memorable performance alongside his brother, Gary, as one of the notorious gangster twins Ronald and Reggie in the hit British film The Krays.
But in 2009 Spandau Ballet reformed for The Reformation Tour, a sell-out greatest hits world tour, and performed for another decade before finally calling time on the band.
And Martin admitted he was the “peacekeeper” in the band when things were getting fraught.
“I tried to make sure that everybody was happy all the time,” he said on the ITV show.
“I didn’t mind that, that was my role, that’s what I played. Just a shame I didn’t get paid for it.
“I was the mediator. Sometimes I was the go-between.”
However, Martin sadly admitted that he didn’t think the band would ever perform live again
“I don’t think it’s ever going to work again,” he says. “I feel really guilty about that sometimes.
“[But] we had the time of our lives. 10 years, what an incredible way to grow up, to see the world, to discover yourself, discover who you are.”
