Mick Norcross' death ruled as suicide as son smashed windows of home to save him

Former TOWIE star Mick Norcross’ cause of death has been confirmed as suicide by hanging after his son Kirk smashed in the windows of his Essex home to save him, as an inquest heard.

A toxicological report concluded that there was nothing to suggest that Mr Norcross was under the influence of anything other than his own medication.

Essex Live reports the inquest also heard that his son Kirk smashed the windows of Mick’s home to try and find him after worrying for his safety when he couldn’t make contact with him.

The inspector told the court: “Family could be seen an hour later in courtyard looking into the windows of residency.

“At 14:46hrs they entered house including Kirk. A ladder was used by Kirk to look in bedroom window.

“Kirk runs past the office and reappears holding something apparently hammer was going to be used to force entry by smashing windows.

“At 15.01hrs, the family enter the pool house and 15.03 exits. They appeared to be upset on exit.”

The businessman, 57, was found dead in his home in Bulphan, Essex on January 21.

The inquest heard Norcross had been under pressure financially after being involved in several property developments, including one being built near his home.

“This was two years over schedule and lots of costs incurred. One bank loan of 1.36million and bridging loan secured against main residency and another £1 million needed to finish one of developments.”

Essex Police confirmed at the time that his death was not being treated as suspicious.

Essex Police Inspector Armstrong said: “A post mortem into Mick’s death gave the cause as “suspension by ligature” earlier this year.

Toxicology tests were also carried out, and mobile phone downloads and iPads were looked into by the police.

During the inquest in February Assistant Coroner Michelle Brown said that a detailed letter from a family member had been sent following Mick’s death.

She said: “We are still waiting for the toxicology and post mortem reports, also I understand that mobile phone downloads and iPads are being looked into by the police.

“We also have a very detailed letter from a family member that we have made a request to see if there is anything additional in the live letter.”

Just hours before his death, Mick had posted a cryptic message on Twitter, writing: “At the end remind yourself that you did the best you could. And that is good enough.”

Mick rose to fame on The Only Way is Essex, appearing alongside his son Kirk in the early seasons before eventually leaving in 2013.

During his time on the show, his famous Essex nightclub Sugar Hut was featured as a meeting place for the cast members and also showed Mick’s business decisions in it.

But Mick revealed at the time he was leaving the show because he feared for the club’s reputation after being shown on the series, telling The Sun: My club is an upmarket venue where people come to drink champagne and feel spoiled.

“All these rows they keep filming don’t show the club in a good light and I’m worried it’s putting people off coming, which is the last thing I want.

“I’ve had enough. I’m out.”

Tributes from his former co-stars flooded in following his death, with former love interest Gemma Collins branding him “always a gentleman”, adding she was “shocked and saddened” by his death as she shared a picture of them together.

James Argent wrote online: “Many amazing memories, so sad!

“My thoughts are with his family,” as he called Mick “a true gentleman” and “very kind man”.
