Naga Munchetty says honeymoon with hunky husband was her 'most boring holiday'

BBC Breakfast’sNaga Munchetty may be cosily loved up with husband James Haggar, but it appears their honeymoon didn’t go quite to plan.

Naga has since branded the trip to Mauritius back in 2007 “one of the most boring holidays” she’s ever taken.

Admitting she isn’t a typical “sunlounger” kind of gal, Naga was left out of her comfort zone after an accident confined her to the beach on her second day away.

Speaking on Alan Carr’s Life’s a Beach podcast, Naga said: “I’m not a sunlounger person. I don’t do that. So – this sounds awful – one of the most boring holidays I had was my honeymoon. And not for the reasons you may think.”

Naga went on: “The honeymoon side was fine. It was all good.”

But things went wrong when the Breakfast presenter injured herself while water skiing on hidden barnacles in the ocean.

“I got into the sea, hung onto the pontoon and there were barnacles on the post underneath. I didn’t realise and slashed my leg. I decided not to tell anyone.

“Did my water ski round for about 15 to 20 minutes. I came off and blood was gushing from my leg,” Naga explained.

“I had to have little mini stitches in it and couldn’t shower the leg for the rest of the honeymoon. Couldn’t do any more water sports so literally had to sit on a beach or go to the tea plantation.

“I was a bit bored,” she added. “And read a lot.”

Naga and new hubby James had visited her dad’s home country for their trip away, and podcast host Alan was more than happy to hear that she avoided any terrifying encounters with sharks while away.

“I have a real shark fear,” the Chatty Man presenter said. “Blood in the water. Shark thinking, ‘Mmm, tasty meal’.”

Naga quickly quipped: “I think we’re all right in Mauritius. A shark didn’t get me.”

Naga and James dated for several years before going all in and tying the knot – and actually went for their first date at a pool club.

Speaking on the Her Spirit podcast, Naga said of her husband: “James and I don’t row, and he’s a lovely, lovely man, he’s definitely the better half.”
