In an Instagram reel, Paralympian Stef Reid can be seen taking to the ice with her new prosthetic skating leg as she glides across the ice with her skating partner Andy Buchanan as the pair train for ITV’s Dancing On Ice.
A track and field Paralympian, Stef won bronze and silver medals at the Paralympic Games, competing in 2008, 2012 and 2016 – she’ll be swapping her trainers for skates in the upcoming Dancing On Ice, which airs next month.
On Instagram, Stef showed what it was like before and after having her new prosthetic skating leg, as the empowering video showed the athlete taking to the ice in her new custom made skates.
She captioned the Instagram reel: “Testing out my new skating leg for @dancingonice!
“It’s been a roller coaster two months trying to find a way for me to skate. I now understand why everyone thought I was mad to sign up!
“I got this leg last week and I think we are almost there! Thank you @proactiveprosthetics and @ossur for being up for the challenge!”
In the caption, she thanked her Dancing On Ice partner and pro skater Andy Buchanan for “being so encouraging, so patient and keeping me smiling through the process!”
Her song choice for the reel, Imagine Dragons’ Believer, made the video even more empowering.
It didn’t take long before her devoted fans and followers commented how proud they were of Stef for being ambitious enough to take on Dancing On Ice.
One friend had written: “This is incredible Stef, it’s been amazing watching you progress.”
Whilst a fan added: “I can’t wait to see you on the Ice in January. You’re such a great role model proving that even with a disability, you can do it.”
The Paralympic medalist told Good Morning Britain that she was excited about taking part in Dancing In Ice.
She said: “I’m going to be picking up a new sport this winter, and it comes with a little bit of showbiz. I’m going to be a contestant on Dancing on Ice, and it’s a little bit scary, but I cannot wait!”
Alongside Stef, the contestant’s taking part in Dancing On Ice in 2022 include: Coronation Street legend Sally Dynevor, Happy Mondays dancer Bez, Love Island’s Liberty Poole, rugby star Ben Foden, Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt, Paul Gascoigne’s son, dancer Regan Gascoigne, pop star Rachel Stevens and professional dancer Brendan Cole.
The new series of Dancing on Ice is scheduled to be aired on ITV in January.
