TV star Peter Andre’s wife Dr Emily MacDonagh has taken to social media to promote healthy stool awareness – as fans applaud the move as “fantastic, life-saving advice”.
“Have you ever been to the bathroom, noticed something that’s not normal for you, and then felt too awkward to talk to anyone?” she asked fans.
“It could be a difference in your stool/urine, or an unexplained lump, bump or even blood where it shouldn’t be,” the 32-year-old doctor continued.
The Taunton native was widely praised for using her platform to raise awareness of such an important medical issue, and encouraged people not to feel embarrassed when checking their stool.
Emily went on: “Embarrassment is a particularly big issue when it comes to the bathroom, where symptoms are identified behind a closed door.
“That’s why I’m really excited to have been speaking to media across the country today to raise awareness of Essity’s new campaign to encourage us all to #checkforchange.”
Emily, who tied-the knot with 48-year-old Peter in 2015, is the proud mother of seven-year-old daughter Amelia and four-year-old son Theo.
Essity, a global hygiene and health company, said on their website: “Our recent research highlights the impact that stigma has on accessing health care for bladder and bowel symptoms that may indicate a serious health concern.
“We are asking people to ‘Check for Change’ and seek advice from health care professionals as soon as possible, to increase positive health outcomes.”
In a further bid to promote the company’s mission to #checkforchange, Emily continued: “Essity do lots of work in breaking barriers to wellbeing, and I’m happy to be working with the team to encourage everyone to make sure you know what’s normal for your own bodies, regularly check for any changes, and to seek advice if you do notice a difference.”
The doting mum, who is also step-mum to the children Peter shares with ex-wife Katie Price, 14-year-old Princess and 16-year-old Junior, recently spoke out about the loneliness she experienced when she became a first time mum.
Writing in her column for OK! magazine, Emily wrote: “I had different experiences with my two kids as they were both so different.
“Millie was my first and she was a really good baby, but I was on my own quite a lot with her as Pete was away, so it could be lonely at times.”
