Piers Morgan couldn’t help but see the funny side to his Good Morning Britain exit today, as he shared a humorous April Fool’s joke to his Twitter fans.
On Wednesday, Piers, shared a satirical comment on his social platform after the Archbishop of Canterbury seemed to confirmed the actual date of Harry and Meghan’s wedding ceremony.
Speculation on the actual date of the wedding had been circulating, after Meghan claimed in her explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey that she had married Harry in a private ceremony three days before the public wedding.
But since then, Archbishop Justin Welby spoke to an Italian newspaper and said: “The legal wedding was on the Saturday.”
On Wednesday, Piers took to Twitter and made a funny jibe at the Archbishop, the presenter said:
“The Archbishop of Canterbury should either apologise for disbelieving Meghan Markle’s secret wedding claims – or lose his job.”
Today it looks like Piers couldn’t help but see the lighter side to the ongoing wedding debate.
Speaking to his 7.9 million followers on Twitter, Piers said: “UPDATE: Following the Archbishop of Canterbury’s confirmation that Meghan Markle was talking a load of old flannel in her Oprah interview, ITV just offered me my @GMB job back & I’ve decided to accept.
“The nation’s prayers have been answered. See you Monday!”
Piers fans were happy about his announcement but suspected that it may all just be a light-hearted April Fool’s gag.
One fan commented: “I hope this is true but more likely to be April Fools [crying face emoji]”
Another disappointed fan wrote: “Gutted that this is probably an April fools! Although I think GMB will be regretting their actions I doubt Piers would now lower himself now to accept. They would need to publicly apologise!”
While another penned: “That is not a funny April fools joke, I actually got excited then [crying face emoji]”
Since resigning from his position on Good Morning Britain on March 9, many fans have petitioned for the controversial star to return to his original role.
This week, GMB ratings have plummeted yet again, as the show lost another 100,000 viewers, according to reports.
The breakfast programme also reached their lowest viewing figures on March 17th, when ratings dropped to 800,000.
On Wednesday, a source close to ITV disclosed that they are planning to make Susanna Reid the main star of the show, and structure the majority of the programme around her.
