Pop Idol's Michelle McManus tests positive for Covid-19 while pregnant with second child

Winner of 2003 Pop Idol, Michelle McManus has tested positive for coronavirus while pregnant with her second child.

Taking to Instagram to share the news with her fans, Michelle shared a snap of a positive lateral flow test, while explaining that it wasn’t the Christmas present she was hoping for after being ill over the festive period.

Luckily the expectant star, who was double jabbed when she contracted the virus, is now feeling “a bit better”.

Writing a caption alongside the snap of the positive test, Michelle wrote: “Not quite the Christmas present I was hoping for but thankfully me & bump are now feeling a bit better.

“So very grateful that I had been double vaccinated, ” she continued, before thanking the NHS and praising the vaccination programme and roll out.

“Thank you to our incredible @nhsggc & all those responsible for the brilliant vaccine roll out across Scotland. #covid #covidpositive #pregnancy #vaccination.”

Fans and friends were quick to flood the comments section with well wishes, with one penning: “So sorry Michelle, but glad you and bump are on the mend. Take care xxxxx.”

A second penned: “So glad to hear that you and the wee bump are on the mend. Sending you lots of love and virtual hugs mrs x.”

While a third fan said: “Hope you and baby feeling better Michelle, yous take care.”

Michelle rose to fame when she won the second series of Pop Idol back in 2003, before releasing All This Time – her first single which ended up gaining a number one spot in the charts.

Soon after her success, chart topper Michelle released her first and only album – The Meaning Of Love.

Michelle is currently pregnant with her second child, which is due to be born in early 2022

A year after her album was released, she was dropped from her record label, but that didn’t stop her from making a name for herself.

The Scottish sweetheart went on to appear on Gillian McKeith’s You Are What You Eat, and from 2009 until 2011 she hosted STV lifestyle programme The Hour.

The 41-year-old star is expected to welcome her second child with her husband Jeff Nimmo in early 2022. The pair got hitched four years ago and share one child together, son Harry who is just one.
