Real-life Corrie couple Sally Carman and Joe Duttine postpone getting married

Coronation Street’s Sally Carman and Joe Duttine have decided to postpone their wedding due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The soap stars, who play Abi Franklin and Tim Metcalfe respectively, met on-set in 2017 and announced their engagement in March last year to eager fans.

But speaking on Loose Women on Friday, Sally announced that the December date has been put back.

“I’m not quite sure where we’re gonna be in December, the way things have been dealt with,” she explained, “so I didn’t want to risk arranging a wedding.

“We want to have a party! So if there’s 15 people allowed to come, it’s not great really,” she explained.

“So we thought that it was best if we defer it for a year, and hopefully get the wedding that we want!”

Sally also spoke about how much she hates filming scenes with her fiancé on the cobbles because he makes her laugh so much.

The star explained: “It’s horrible, it’s not nice to be around. You put him together with Peter Gunn [Brian Packham in the soap] and Simon Gregson [Steve McDonald] and it’s just a gunfight, who can cause the most destruction on-set. They’re absolutely horrendous people.”

Sally previously told Daily Star that her fiancé Joe helps her to “switch off” after filming emotional scenes – especially after the harrowing storyline of the death of her soap son, Seb.

“As soon as I think I’ve done the best I can, I just switch off, drive home and have a nice evening,” she said, adding: “I’m better at switching off than [Joe] is, but it’s brilliant. [Having a co-star partner] really does help, because he gets it.

“If I need to learn my lines or I need an extra go at something he just gets it. Or if it’s been a long day I’ll say I’m bloody tired and he’s like ‘yep!’

“He gets it, he understands. It works perfectly well so we do just switch off and have a completely actor-free life once we’re at home.”

She left Loose Women fans distracted on Friday as she unveiled her glamorous new look, with her blonde hair styled into an artistic topknot and a pair of huge, stylish glasses.

A patterned blouse and scarlet lipstick completed the look, as swooning fans took to social media to point out how gorgeous she looked.

“Sally’s really pretty!” one said, as another penned: “Cracking pair of spectacles.”

“@SallyCarman1 is such a fab actress. What a beaut!” someone else posted.

Sally has spoken in the past about how her character Abi is described for visually impaired Corrie fans as having “greasy” hair – though the actress washes hers every day.

“I always go to TV interviews with my hair done, my makeup done and wearing really nice clothes and they go ‘There we go, she’s the prostitute’ or ‘That’s the woman with the drug problem’,” Sally laughed, though she said she doesn’t mind being typecast as they’re “the best parts to play”.
