Sex Pistols' Johnny Rotten is full-time carer for wife with 'wicked' disease

Sex Pistols anarchist John Lydon has opened up about becoming a full-time carer for his wife who has Alzheimer’s.

Lydon, 65, describes Alzheimer’s as a “wicked and debilitating” disease and has been forced to accept that the woman he loves, Nora Forster, will never get better.

Speaking to the Times, Lydon, also known as Johnny Rotten, said: “Alzheimer’s is a wicked, debilitating, slow, deliberate process, but we’re going through that together.

“She doesn’t forget me. She forgets everything else but not me.”

The couple married in 1979, when Lydon was on top of the world as a punk icon and Nora was a German publishing heiress.

The loving couple, who have been at each other’s side for 45 years, received the terrible news in 2018 that Nora had Alzheimer’s.

“I mean, it would be easy enough to run away and say, ‘Oh, it’s not my responsibility; things aren’t the same’. B***cks to that,” he said.

John says that since being diagnosed Nora has accidentally started two fires and he has had to make adjustments to the house to keep them safe.

The couple live in a suburb of Los Angeles by the seaside, but also have houses in Malibu and London.

John spoke candidly about his time as a full-time career and reveals at times he is “quite suicidal” and has moments of deep sadness.

Tragedy already struck the couple in 2010 when Nora’s daughter, and John’s step-daughter, died of breast cancer at the age of 48.

John believes that was when his wife started to show signs of Alzheimer’s.
