Strictly fans noticed that judge Motsi Mabuse appeared to look ‘unhappy’ following Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice’s emotional finale win.
EastEnders actress Rose and professional dancer Giovanni won Strictly Come Dancing 2021, after competing in the finale against John Whaite and Johannes Radebe.
Celebrity contestant AJ Ododu had pulled out of the competition 24 hours earlier due to an injury.
However after the couple were announced as the winners, viewers took to social media to comment that Motsi appeared to look ‘unhappy’ with the result, with one fan saying: “#Strictly congratulations to Rose and Giovanni. Motsi’s face as the result was announced priceless, not a happy bunny.”
Another said, “Motsi wasn’t happy with the result, was she?! #Strictly,” with a third viewer adding, “Motsi looked absolutely fuming with the result there! #Strictly2021 #Strictly.”
Following viewers comments, Motsi has since hit back at the claims that she was unhappy with the result, saying: “Even after such an emotional and Fantastic final people still will find a way for hate ! Imagine sitting at the living room and interpreting this ??
“It’s a shame ! Thank you for all the Love and support I received they override this comment by the thousands.”
Other viewers also took to social media to defend the judge following comments online, with one fan saying: “”Whaaaat? You’re reading too much into something that isn’t there,” after another viewer said Motsi’s reaction to the result was “unprofessional.”
Motsi had also praised the couple following their Romeo and Juliet inspired dance routine, which had previously left audiences and the judges in tears when it was first performed, during Saturday’s finale.
She said to Rose: “This is a person who’s shown us we are capable of doing anything we set our mind to and that was your space too. I feel like an improved person because you were on this show.”
Their Romeo and Juliet dance routine featured 10 seconds of silence, to highlight what daily life is like for Rose and other deaf people.
It was widely praised by audiences and judges, with Anton Du Beke saying it was one of the best performances in the show’s history.
