The Chase contestant leaves viewers gobsmacked after she announces she's 87

The Chase viewers were left speechless on Tuesday afternoon after contestant Yvonne revealed she was 87 years old.

Host Bradley Walsh welcomed four new contestants to the show and was eager to see them get through to the final with some money in-hand.

Shaun Wallace, aka The Dark Destroyer, was in the hot seat trying to prevent the hopefuls from going home with the cash prize.

Ben, Pat, Vicki and Yvonne all took it in turns to take on the cash builder and later went head-to-head with The Dark Destroyer in an intense round of general knowledge questions.

Viewers were distracted at the start of the show as contestant Yvonne revealed her age.

Taking to Twitter, one shocked viewer penned: “Surely Yvonne is 67, not 87.”

Another added: “Yvonne looks good for 87! Blimey.”

A third person posted: “87! Wow!”

While a fourth fan said: “Did Yvonne say 87?”

“87!! Wow. Oldest ever contestant?” a fifth social media user wondered.

Bradley quizzed Yvonne about herself before she took on The Dark Destroyer.

Yvonne from Middlesex explained that she retired when she was 82.

A shocked Bradley replied: “You are not”

Yvonne added: “I worked for Avon then I took early retirement.

“Then I saw an advertisement for a job in the airport for a year.

“I always wanted to work there and I ended up working there for 23 years.”

Yvonne scored £4,000 in her cash builder round but she, unfortunately, got caught during her head-to-head round with quiz champion Shaun.
