The Chase’s Mark Labbett recalled the moment a nurse caught a glimpse of his lower legs and immediately pointed out that he could be diabetic.
The 55-year-old quizzer has been on quite the health kick during the lockdown and the pounds have been falling off.
Previously, Mark credited his busy lifestyle and his love of dog-walking for his dramatic weight loss.
The ITV Chaser, who better known as The Beast on the 5pm favourite, has now revealed that his lifestyle overhaul was actually spurred on after he’d been diagnosed with diabetes in 2017.
Had an eagle-eyed nurse not shot a swift glance at his legs, he might not have known about his hidden illness.
Speaking to Express.co.uk, Mark said: “I’ve never had a diabetic episode.”
An episode would usually be suffered if glucose (sugar) levels are low in his or her blood which can on occasions cause a diabetic shock if levels drop dangerously.
Discussing the moment he’d discovered the condition, the ITV star explained it had just been part of a normal routine health check.
“I’ve got skin that doesn’t heal properly in my lower legs,” Mark explained.
“A nurse looked at me and she asked, ‘Are you sure your not diabetic?'”
“They took a test and she said, ‘Yes, you’re diabetic,'” he added.
It was at this point in 2017 that Mark was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes which kick-started his transformation process.
Mark now weighs in at a healthy 19 stone after shedding a whopping 140 pounds.
After dropping five clothing sizes, social media fans could barely believe it was the same person in a recent post.
The on-screen quizzer penned: “Having a @tobycarvery at Barnsley with superstar presenter @eljonesuk.
“She ate more than me but wimped out of the pudding :(.”
“Lovely pic love a carvery Mark you’ve lost so much weight now you deserve some treats,” read one message.
“You look amazing. Not that you didn’t look good before,” said another.
“Mark looking trim mate. Keep it up pal,” exclaimed a third.
While a forth said: “You’re wasting away Mark!!”
