Who is AJ Odudu? Strictly Come Dancing confirms announces presenter in new line-up

BBC 2’s iconic dancing competition is shaping its line up, as Strictly Come Dancing is soon to air its 19th series next month.

As cutting-edge new pairings and surprises are being anticipated, including the show’s first-ever all male dancing pair, some of the most popular British celebs are set to join the glamorous ballroom.

This includes AJ Odudu, a 33-year-old TV presenter who proved her rhythmic talent when she won the second series of Celebrity Karaoke Club on ITV2, in July.

Despite having an impressive CV featuring countless TV presenting gigs, it seems that this TV talent always wished to one day, becoming a dancer.

In fact, last night, AJ officially announced that she was set to become one of Strictly’s new cast member as she wrote on a post on her Instagram page: “DREAM. COME. TRUE.”

Who is AJ Odudu?

AJ was born on February 12, 1988, in Blackburn, Lancashire, to Nigerian parents.

She grew up in a family of eight children and attended St Bede’s RC High School and St Mary’s College.

The TV star went on to graduate with a degree in English and Politics from Keele University.

Nevertheless, AJ’s television career began when she landed a gig as a reporter for BBC Blast, based at Radio Lancashire.

AJ landed her first presenting gig when she was 21 years old

When she was only 21 years old, AJ earned her first presenting role and worked on BBC Two series’ The Almost Perfect Guide to Life in 2009.

She simultaneously worked as a presenter on The 5:19 Show, an online show on the BBC website.

The talented personality saw her career quickly evolve as she went on to attain several TV jobs included as a broadcast guest on Channel 4, a gig starring as herself in Comedy Lab, as well as presenting Sky Arts’ coverage of the Isle of Wight Festival 2012.

AJ particularly gained national recognition when she presented Big Brother’s Bit on the side with Rylan Clark and Emma Willis in 2013.

She ultimately secured a position as a co-host of a one-off revival episode of The Big Breakfast, presenting alongside Mo Gilligan, which will air on Channel 4 in September 2021.

Moreover, the TV personality is a woman of many talents.

Indeed, AJ launched her own blog on Hello Magazine’s UK website in 2013 and is now working as a contributing editor for Grazia UK.

The presenter will undoubtedly be a strong Strictly competitor to watch for.
