Bake Off chaos as two stars forced to drop out of show after falling ill

Channel 4 viewers will miss out on two bakers this week as Rebs and Abdul were left feeling unwell.

The two stars of Bake Off will not take part in the third week of the famous baking show, but instead the pair will sail through to next week with a free pass.

The news of their brief break came from Matt Lucas who tells contestants in Tuesday night’s episode: “Both Rebs and Abudl are a bit under the weather this week, but with your permission, we thought we’d send them both straight through to the final.”

It was soon made clear he was joking, given there are many weeks to the final and the treatment would be deemed unfair.

Co-host Noel Fielding clarified: “Only joking, they’re going to miss a week and hopefully they’ll be back next week.”

The two will be missing a world of fun this week as the fellow bakers take on bread week, seeing them try out a classic pizza and make a pastry classic in the technical challenge.

As their final challenge they will take on the Danish sandwich cake, the smorgastarta, but neither Rebs or Abdul will be showing off those particular skills.

Both missing stars fell into the danger zone in the first two weeks but managed to pull it around at the final hurdle.

Abdul, a 29-year-old electronics engineer, started baking after he graduated and has told the professionals that one of his favourite ever flavours is matcha.

He certainly impressed in biscuit week after using a whopping 90 individual biscuits to make his final project.

Meanwhile, Rebs is a 23-year-old masters student who has grown up helping her mum in the kitchen and loves to “unwind and relieve stress” with the hobby.

She’s confessed that she loves to experiment with Middle Eastern tastes, adding a new flavour to her impressive bakes each week.

While Rebs and Abdul will sail through to next week, one more person will be forced to leave the show.

Two people have left so far, with Will being the first to go shortly followed by Maisam in week two.

The Great British Bake Off airs on Channel 4 on Tuesdays at 8pm
