BBC Breakfast Carol Kirkwood red-faced as Jon Kay targets her in crude fart joke

Just in case the bracing wind wasn’t enough to turn BBC Breakfast weather presenter Carol Kirkwood’s cheeks red, host Jon Kay decided to help out.

With a windswept Carol on the roof of New Broadcasting House to deliver the day’s forecast, the sound of busy London traffic was audible from the streets below her.

But another sound drew Jon’s attention – and plenty of giggles from both Carol and the cosy studio staff.

The sound of a strong gust of wind could be heard through Carol’s microphone as she finished up her report, as Jon quipped: “Complete with sound effects there – we just got a little burst of wind from your microphone.”

Laughing, Carol fired back: “I’m glad you said it was on my microphone!” – hinting that Jon implied it was coming from somewhere rather more unsavoury.

“In the air, yes!” Jon reassured her as he and co-host Nina Warhurst collapsed into giggles. “Thank you very much indeed.”

Nina couldn’t restrain herself from chuckling as she clarified: “Just to be clear!”

Earlier on in the show, Jon and Nina had joked with Carol that she’d be stationed outside for the rest of the week – warning her to put on some extra layers.

Jon joked: “So we’re looking at an outside broadcast tomorrow and Thursday Carol, yeah?”

Laughing, Carol fired back: “Not from me though, Jon, you’ll find!”

Jon said: “No, I’ve looked at the rotas – it’s you. It’s you!” as Nina replied: “Make sure you put some weights in your shoes, Carol, so you don’t blow away tomorrow!”

Fans at home, meanwhile, were simply baffled as to why Carol wasn’t cosied up in the studio with the rest of the cast, as one tweeted: “Some weird stuff going on this morning with #BBCBreakfast. Why have they stuck Carol on the roof? We need to know. These things are important.”

Another cheerfully added: “Yes looks wonderful Carol thanks for letting us see it again, was on the roof back in 1982 wow great times there!”

And Carol couldn’t help but turn to her own social media account to post a few stunning snaps of the sun rising over the horizon, painting the sky shades of lilac and orange.

She penned: “Beautiful sunrise in London this morning xxx”.

One fan complimented her: “Stunning like yourself!”, as someone else said: “Good morning Lady K. It most certainly is!”

“You are our sunrise – keep safe!” another penned.
