BBC Breakfast star warned to 'move on' by Nina Warhurst in blistering football debate

BBC Breakfast’s Holly Hamilton was asked to swiftly move on when she began updating viewers on the football.

The Irish presenter, 35, joined hosts Nina Warhurst and Roger Johnson on the red sofa to give viewers their daily dose of sport news on Sunday (August 14).

Holly kicked off her segment talking about Manchester United ‘s devastating 4-0 defeat to Brentford on Saturday (August 13), saying: “Speaking of people swimming in hot water, Manchester United.”

She added: “You know we’re not quite sure what’s left to say really. We can’t really lament, it’s only two weeks in…”

Nina, 41, saw this as the perfect opportunity to change the topic as she interjected: “Let’s just move on Holly.”

“I thought you might say that, Nina!” Holly responded before adding: “I wasn’t sure if you were going to put yourself out there.”

The presenter came under fire later in the episode when she likened people queuing for water to refugees in a warzone.

Taking to social media to fume over the comparison, one wrote: “Did she really just liken people queuing for water in Surrey to refugees coming from a warzone? Just no. it’s Surrey not Syria, Nina #BBCBreakfast.”

“@BBCBreakfast – people queuing for water in Guildford is nothing like refugees queuing in a war zone. Shame on you for drawing such a comparison. Perhaps you need to visit a war zone,” another seething viewer penned.

While a third tweeted: “@BBCBreakfast Residents in Surrey queueing for bottled water like “refugees in a war zone”. Really? REALLY?”

While Nina’s words didn’t sit well with several viewers, she still remains a fan favourite with viewers at home.

Late last month, fans were begging for a major shake-up to the usual Breakfast format after Nina took up Sally Nugent’s spot on the sofa.

On July 20, Jon Kay and Nina reunited in the studio and plenty of fans enjoyed their partnership so much that they want Nina to be made a permanent presenter alongside the likes of Jon, Sally and Naga Munchetty.

Taking to social media voicing their wishes for a shake-up, one fan begged: “Great to see you both the last few days. Good working combination. Hope you work together more often!”

“Jon and Nina are the dream team!” a second echoed, as another posted: “@BBCBreakfast good to see you’ve got the dream team on today while Sally is off. Keep Jon and Nina permanently!”

BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
