BBC Breakfast's Dan Walker told 'you'll be back in three months' by Sally Nugent

BBC Breakfast star Sally Nugent told her co-host Dan Walker that he’ll soon leave Channel 5 and return to his old job at the BBC.

The presenter predicted it will only take a matter of 3 months before Dan will leave his new post and return to the BBC as he’ll “miss” his old station too much.

Dan is set to leave the BBC after 13 years with the broadcaster and six years hosting BBC Breakfast.

He’s set to become a lead anchor on rival broadcaster Channel 5, where he’ll front the channel’s revamped bulletin news show 5 News and also host non-news shows across the station.

Dan spoke to Sally about his upcoming career move on Monday (May 16) ahead of his last day hosting BBC Breakfast on Tuesday.

Raising the topic in front of their viewers, Sally turned to Dan and said: “Talking of Breakfast family….”

Dan replied: “Ah, yes,” before Sally teased: “One more day…”.

Walker then insisted he’d be bringing in cakes and biscuits for the team for his final day in the studio.

She remarked: “You better!” before revealing she’d brought in “quite a few cakes” for Dan over the last few months.

Dan then quipped: “Did you hear our editor shout ‘finally!'” in a self-deprecating nod that suggested his team would be delighted to see him go.

Walker then said: “You only leave once, don’t you? You only leave once,” to suggest he wouldn’t return to his old Breakfast job.

However, Sally clearly wasn’t convinced as she said: “Oh, I don’t know. Do you? Who knows.”

Dan shot back: “Am I coming back?” before saying: “We’ll see.”

The former Strictly star went on: “You’re anticipating the new job going badly…”

Sally then said: “You’ll be back. You’ll be back in three months. You’ll miss us too much.”

Dan revealed it was a “massive decision” to leave his post at the BBC as he loves working alongside Sally and the rest of his team.

He said in a video: “Hello, Dan Walker here. I have a little bit of news for you. In the next few weeks, I’m going to be leaving BBC Breakfast and moving to 5 News and to Channel 5.

“I’m really excited but this has also been a massive decision for me because I love BBC Breakfast.

“I love working alongside Sally and I love the team there, but Channel 5 came with big ambitions, with big plans, and I don’t think opportunities like this come around very often and I can’t wait.”
