British LGBT Awards 2022 shortlist announced including Alan Carr, Lady Gaga and Steps

The shortlist for the British LGBT Awards 2022 has been announced.

The red carpet event will take place in London on the 24th June and will celebrate the biggest names in the industry.

The Awards aim to highlight LGBT+ activists, allies and celebrity figures who have worked hard to advance the rights of LGBT+ people during the past year.

Top names include Alan Carr, Steps, Lady Gaga and Olly Alexander have all been nominated this year.

Chart icons such as Dua Lipa, Lil Nas X and Lady Leshurr have all been nominated for music awards as well as poignant BBC documentary Freddie Mercury: The Final Act shortlisted for Media Moment.

Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe and Formula 1 superstar Lewis Hamilton are amongst celebrities battling for ally accolade alongside music stars Ellie Goulding and Little Mix’s Jade Thirlwall.

Olympic diver Tom Daley and Welsh athlete Colin Jackson have also been listed in the Sports Personality category.

Talking about the event, British LGBT Awards founder, Sarah Garrett, MBE, said: “These awards shine a light on those who have stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the LGBT+ community, during what has been another very challenging 12 months for the community.

“The nominees, which include an exciting mix of famous LGBT+ faces, allies and organisations have all demonstrated a commitment to advancing LGBT+ rights. The awards on 24 June will be a huge celebration of our culture.”
