Coronation Street actor Daniel Brocklebank is exchanging his job as vicar Billy Mayhew on the cobbles for something a lot different.
The actor has landed a huge new role at rival network Channel 4 on iconic gameshow Countdown – and his co-stars have supported him throughout his whirlwind journey.
Thankfully, it doesn’t look as though he’ll be gone for long, as he is appearing as a guest alongside his former Corrie co-star Les Dennis, who is currently filling in for Anne Robinson after she handed in her notice.

Taking to Instagram to share the news, Daniel posted a snap of his dressing room door, which showed the Countdown logo with his name printed underneath.
He told fans: “I’m hugely excited to say that today starts my guest appearance on #Countdown in Dictionary Corner with the rather fabulous Susie Dent and my pal Les Dennis hosting!”
Daniel will be appearing on the programme until Monday (August 8), helping Susie with the latest conundrums.
His Corrie co-stars came out in full support of him, with Phill Whittaker star Jamie Kenna writing: “Oh my god I love this!!”
Maria Connor actress Samia Longchambon added: “You will be ace Dan, well done! xx.”
Another fan gushed: “If you don’t deliver a double entendre I’m writing a letter of complaint!”, while someone else posted: “Dictionary Corner has never looked so sexy!”
“Oh wow you lucky boy,” a third giggled, as another social media user said: “Omg this is the news I’ve been waiting for!”
Dan admitted his experience was “so much fun and utterly terrifying at the same time” – but he isn’t going to neglect his Corrie pals any time soon, either.
On Friday (August 5) he shared a sweet in-character snap alongside Todd Grimshaw star Gareth Pierce and George Shuttleworth actor Tony Maudsley as the trio got suited and booted for an on-set funeral.
Clad in black suits, with Dan sporting Billy’s vicar collar, the group had suncream at the ready as they enjoyed a spot of downtime in between filming.
Daniel wrote on Instagram: “I adore these gentlemen.
“As you can imagine there is absolutely no laughter at all when we’re together…” as Gareth immediately commented: “Back atcha babez!”
Jamie Kenna laughed: “That’s your album cover!”, as Beth Tinker star Lisa George commented a row of love heart emojis.
