Dermot O'Leary forced to apologise for awkward blunder as he begs to be sent home

Dermot O’Leary made a huge blunder on the latest episode of This Morning after alluding to a big NTAs hangover.

The presenter, 49, appeared on Friday’s show (October 14) alongside Alison Hammond where he incorrectly named Bradley Walsh drama The Larkins.

It came after Dermot hinted at a hangover following the ITV programme collecting the gong for best daytimes series at the NTAs on Thursday evening.

“It’s The Larkins, sweetheart.”

Putting his head in his hands, an embarrassed Dermot replied: “I thought it was called The Darling Buds of May.

“My apologies. Send the NTA back!”

The blunder followed Dermot confessing that he felt delicate after attending the National Television Awards the previous evening and joining his co-stars on stage the accept the best daytime series gong.

Alluding to a raucous time, Dermot added: “I think I speak for all of us when I say, ‘I don’t want to go to school today mum.'”

Asked if he attended the NTAs after party, he later sheepishly added: “We went for a little bit, yeah.”

He later confirmed the party with his This Morning co-stars had been in “full swing”.

Earlier in the programme, Dermot and Alison danced in a shower of confetti as they celebrated the show’s fifth consecutive victory at the awards bash.

Following their celebratory boogie, Alison said: “We are so very very grateful.

“You are officially watching Britain’s best daytime show everyone! Thank you so much for voting.”

She later confessed that she had mistakenly thought she had won the best presenter gong despite the award once again going to I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! hosts Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV
