Eamonn Holmes sparks Ofcom complaints for hinting Prince Harry be ‘thrown over balcony’

Eamonn Holmes provoked furious backlash after suggesting Prince Harry be “thrown over a balcony”.

The GB News presenter went all out when it came to the Duke of Sussex’s latest interview with US show Today, in which Harry claimed he wants to make sure the Queen is “protected” and discussed his recent visit.

Harry said in the now viral clip: “It was just so nice to see her [the Queen] you know, she’s on great form, she’s always got a great sense of humour with me and I’m making sure she’s protected and got the right people around her.

“Both Meghan and I had tea with her, so it was really nice to catch up with her.”

Eamonn couldn’t resist giving his own take – though some have decided he took it too far.

Eamonn Holmes has been slammed for the comments

Speaking alongside his co-star Isabel Webster, with guests including journalist Claire Muldoon and Conservative MP David Mellor, Eamonn accused the prince of visiting the UK to up his credibility.

He said: “He’s bringing a book out where he’s slagging off Camilla and maybe William and his father.

“How on earth… why wouldn’t they just throw him over the balcony and her with him?”

But viewers on social media were left furious.

Harry wants the Queen to be ‘protected’

Royal biographer and co-author of Harry and Meghan biography Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of A Modern Royal Family, Omid Scobie, tweeted: “Everyone is entitled to an opinion, especially on an interview made for public consumption.

“But you know what isn’t acceptable? Vile ‘commentary’ that only serves to incite violence and hate.”

Someone else branded Eamonn a “bully”, insisting they’ve been turned off GB News for good, as they tweeted: “I won’t switch it on again, Eamonn Holmes proved himself to be a bully this morning. He should be throughly ashamed of himself.”

Another said: “Let’s be blunt. @eamonnholmes (OBE!) asked on national television why the royal family doesn’t just kill Harry and Meghan. Apparently this is what counts as journalism in the UK now.”

“Why are they so hateful. Can you imagine if someone threatened to throw anyone off a balcony and their wife. Shame on Eamonn Holmes,” a fourth viewer echoed.

Other viewers have vowed to report the moment to broadcasting watchdog Ofcom.
