Good Morning Britain’s Susanna Reid made a haircut comment to a Labour MP on Monday, but Ed Balls said he’d have been in “total trouble” had he have said the same thing.
Labour MP and Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves appeared on ITV’s GMB on September 26, with Susanna commenting on her appearance as soon as she appeared on screen.
Dialling in from the Labour Party Conference, Rachel’s hair looked shorter and as though it had had a trim – according to Susanna.

Much-loved GMB anchor Susanna then asked Rachel if she had a haircut, touching on the “very noticeable” trim.
The Labour MP made a jibe comparing it to the “cuts we’ve seen from the Chancellor” before asking “I hope you approve?” referring to her hair.
Some fans at home were quick to pick up on the comment, with some even accusing Susanna of “pure sexism” after she asked the MP about her appearance.
After Susanna’s haircut comment one viewer took to Twitter to pen: “Would u ask a man if he had haircut ?l @susannareid100 #gmb.”
Someone replied to the tweet and simply said: “Pure sexism there,” insinuating that it was okay for a woman to comment on another woman’s appearance, but not a man.
Another person then took to the social media platform to say: “#gmb still reeling from hair question to Reeves. Unbelievable.”
Adding: “It’s either sexist or some pathetic attempt to put her off her stride. Latter failed.”
Ed Balls then later addressed the haircut comment and hinted at sexism too.
Scolding Susanna he said: “Good job I didn’t say that about her hair, I’d be in total trouble.”
“Would you?” asked Susanna, before Ed replied: “Absolutely.”
Defending her comment, Susanna added: “I just thought when you see a politician in a certain way and notice a big difference [you can comment].”
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
