Emmerdale fans predict major characters 'to return' in major 50th anniversary twist

Emmerdale fans are certain two major characters could be returning to the ITV soap for its 50th anniversary later this year.

Fans are expecting Kelly Windsor and Jean Tate to return to the soap as it celebrates turning half a century.

Fans last saw Kelly after she gave birth to Jimmy King’s son Elliot, who gave the King patriarch an ultimatum back in 2011 – that he could either leave the village with her and their son or lose Elliot forever.

But with Jimmy opting to stay with wife Nicola instead, Kelly and Elliot disappeared – before leaving Elliot on Jimmy’s doorstep a few years later.

Her niece Jean Tate, meanwhile, was last seen in September 2005 as the daughter of Zoe Tate, who emigrated to New Zealand along with her mum after a tense trial which saw Scott Windsor accuse Zoe of attempted murder.

Though Jean was just a tot when she appeared on the programme, she was involved in her fair share of storylines – including being abducted by Scott.

With their existing links to villagers across the ITV soap, their arrivals would certainly cause a stir.

And fans are sure the village is set for some old school drama, as one fan posted: “Time for Kelly Windsor to come back with her niece Jean Tate.”

As someone else cheekily posted: “You need writers to study Emmerdale history especially when a lot of watch classic Emmerdale.

“Never any mention of the plane crash other events that shaped the village or villagers that still have links ie Kelly & Scott, Zoe & Jean these were well loved and could be recast!”

Another fan suggested: “I wouldn’t mind the returns of Jean Tate and Samuel Skillbeck.”

“Me waiting for #Emmerdale to bring on Jean Tate!” a fourth said alongside a GIF of someone crossing their fingers.

Someone else pointed out that Jean – who would be around Noah’s age – would help to connect him to his Tate roots.

It could be necessary, especially as Noah seems to be going slightly off the rails when it comes to his attitude to girls.

They tweeted: “Jean is just a year older than Noah and it would be great if she returned because she would provide Noah with a proper Tate link.”

Another guessed: “Will Jean Tate make a return? She must be around Belle’s age?”

Emmerdale airs weeknights from 7:30pm on ITV.
