Emmerdale viewers 'switch off' over constant 'distressing scenes' warnings on ITV soap

Emmerdale viewers have blasted show bosses after they received “yet another” warning of “distressing scenes” before an episode of the soap opera.

As the soap prepared to air it’s latest episode, viewers were hit with the following warning when the announcer read: “with strong emotions and scenes of distress some viewers may find upsetting, it’s Emmerdale.”

The warning has been a regular fixture of late on the drama-filled series, with some viewers saying they’re switching off as the show has become “too dark.”

“Oh god, upsetting scenes etc etc. I love a bit of early evening light entertainment. Why is Emmerdale always so dark?” blasted one viewer.

Some viewers are saying they’re switching off as the show has become “too dark”

“Scenes of distress isn’t that every night? I’m out take care everybody,” said a second.

While a third added: “The fact that there’s a warning every episode is ridiculous why is this show so miz al the time!?”

Even one of the show’s stars has spoken out about her struggle to film the distressing scenes.

Actress Nicola Wheeler, who plays Nicola King, opened up about filming recent scenes, which she described as “menacing”, as fans saw Nicola attacked by a group of teenage girls.

Faith recently learned she has terminal second degree cancer

In upcoming episodes, Nicola will suffer a breakdown as she struggles with the aftermath of the traumatic event.

On filming the forthcoming episodes, Nicola admits that they were “tough”.

“It is quite menacing when you’re on the ground looking up and there’s a circle of people around you.

“I really wouldn’t want to be in that scenario,” she told The Sunday Express and other press.

“When we did the panic attack days, they were quite tough because I think I hyperventilated from 8am until 5pm.

“But it was quite nice because we sort of did the full breakdown and then we went back to the middle of the day, so I got a little bit of a reprieve where I was only slightly anxious towards the end of the day.”

Other heavy storylines include Chas struggling to deal with his mum Faith’s terminal second degree cancer.

Sarah has also had a difficult time lately in Emmerdale, what with Noah being turned into the police by his own mum for harassment, and suffering fears for own health after the news of her grandmother’s cancer.

Sarah has suffered from a multitude of health conditions, including a rare genetic disease called Fanconi Anaemia and a heartbreaking diagnosis of Leukaemia.

The trauma still followers her to this day and currently leads her rather dark storyline.
