Full list of Ezra Miller allegations from strangling to harassment

Ezra Miller, who is non-binary, rose to fame with their roles in Afterschool, The Perks of Being a Wallflower Suicide Squad and Justice League.

However, the actor has found themselves in hot water in recent months after assault and harassment allegations came to light involving the star.

Ezra, who celebrates their 30th birthday today, has recently also announced that they are seeking treatment for their mental health in a bid to counter a self-described “time of intense crisis”.

But what are all the controversies and legal issues that Ezra has found themselves in recently? Here’s everything you need to know:

Disorderly conduct

During the filming of The Perks of Being a Wallflower in 2011, Ezra was riding as a passenger in a car that was pulled over in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, for a broken brake light.

Following a search, police discovered 20 grams of marijuana in Ezra’s possession.

They were initially charged with drug possession, but the charge was later dropped by a judge in court.

Ezra later said: “I don’t feel like there’s any need to hide the fact that I smoke pot. It’s a harmless herbal substance that increases sensory appreciation.”

The alleged strangling incident

Back in April 2020, a video surfaced online in a since-deleted tweet that appeared to show the actor strangling a woman and throwing her to the ground.

The clip was confirmed by Variety to have taken place at Prikið Kaffihús, which is a bar in Reykjavík, Iceland, that Ezra frequently visits when in the city.

An employee at the bar later identified the person in the video as Ezra, who was escorted off the premises by staff following the alleged incident.

At the time, Miller was not put under investigation.

In light of more recent allegations, a representative for Ezra claimed earlier this month that the alleged strangulation back in 2020 was a spontaneous reaction spurred by “a group of teenagers” taunting Ezra over their mixed martial arts skills.

Hawaii arrests

In March 2022, The Flash actor was arrested in Hawaii following, what police stated, was a physical altercation with patrons after having hurled verbal abuse at clients at a karaoke bar.

Ezra, who was charged with harassment and disorderly conduct, later claimed that they became enraged after being “accosted by a Nazi”.

During the arrest, Ezra claimed that they were being “unlawfully persecuted” and, after members of the police misgendered them, accused the officers of intentionally committing a hate crime.

Following the arrests, Ezra was again taken into custody on suspicion of second-degree assault by Leilani Estates Subdivision police authorities in Pāhoa, Hawaii.

According to French daily newspaper, Midi Libre, Ezra was arrested for allegedly throwing a chair, which ended up hitting a 26-year-old woman and left a cut on her forehead, after being told to leave during a private get-together.

The actor was arrested just minutes after the alleged attack but was later released “pending further investigation”, according to police.

In the hours following their second arrest, Ezra pleaded no contest to the karaoke incident and was fined $500 (£453)for disorderly conduct by Judge Kanani Laubach.

Restraining order

In June this year, the Standing Rock Sioux tribal court issued a temporary restraining order against Ezra on behalf of 18-year-old activist, Tokata Iron Eyes.

Tokata’s parents, Sara Jumping Eagle and Chase Iron Eye, requested the court order due to Ezra’s use of “violence, intimidation, threat of violence, fear, paranoia, delusions, and drugs”.

Tokata’s parents also stated in court documents that Ezra had caused bruises on their child’s body.

Video and text responses were later posted on the Instagram which was believed to belong to Tokata denying their parents’ allegations.

However, the parents’ counter claimed by stating that their child does not control their social media.

Ezra has not spoken out about the temporary restraining order and a judge signed a protective order that would prohibit the actor from contacting Tokata and the family.

However, the court was unable to “locate or serve” Ezra the legal papers, according to a copy of the petition accessed by the LA Times.

Harassment allegations

On June 16 this year, a mother and her 12-year-old child were granted a temporary restraining order against Ezra in Massachusetts.

According to The Daily Beast, the mother and her child were granted the temporary harassment prevention order after they alleged that the actor “menaced their family one evening in their downstairs neighbour’s home and acted inappropriately toward” the minor.

The actor deactivated their Instagram account shortly after the temporary harassment prevention order was granted.

According to the alleged victims, Ezra, who was originally visiting a neighbour, showed up at the family’s house unexpectedly while wearing a bulletproof vest and brandishing a gun.

In an interview with the Insider, the child’s mother said that Ezra had known the family since February.

Incidents at Vermont Farm

A number of incidents involving the star have taken place at his Vermont Farm home in Stamford, Vermont.

As reported by Rolling Stone earlier this year, the troubled actor had been housing a woman they met in Hawaii and her three children at their farm since mid-April 2022.

Allegations then came to light from both anonymous and named sources that guns and ammunition are easily accessible to the children at the farm, all aged one to five years old, and that the one-year-old put a loose bullet in her mouth.

The mother of the children claimed that Ezra had offered the homes so she could escape from the children’s father, who she alleged is abusive.

Further claims include assault rifles placed on the children’s stuffed animals, and “heavy marijuana use” with people smoking marijuana in front of the children in rooms without proper ventilation, including a witness stating that he “saw Miller blow marijuana smoke in the baby’s face and use their arm to waft more smoke in the baby’s direction.”

Rolling Stone also published that Ezra had been running a large, unlicensed marijuana farm.

On August 6, Vermont State Police approached the property and “repeatedly attempted to serve the mother an emergency care order that demanded the children’s removal from her care and the home over fear for their safety… based on a DCF caseworker’s affidavit, the State Attorney’s office had requested two emergency care orders over the past week that sought to transfer legal custody of the children over to the state.”

Police and social workers were unable to locate the children or the mother, with Ezra denying that they were living at his farm, stating that they hadn’t been there “for the past two months”

This was later contradicted by a police officer who provided evidence that the mother and her children were living at the farm.

Burglary charge

Last month, the actor was charged with felony burglary in Vermont, which stemmed from what the police report indicated was theft of bottles of alcohol from a private home in May 2022, according to Vermont State Police.

According to the police report, Ezra was identified by police via video surveillance footage.

They were due to be arraigned in court on September 26 but the date has since been pushed back to October 17.

A week prior to the initial arraignment, Ezra’s rep stated that the home is owned by a former childhood friend of the actor and that they believed that they were welcome to enter the home to borrow some rice wine for cooking.

Mental health treatment

On August 15, Ezra’s rep released a statement to Variety in which Ezra apologised for their past behaviour, stating that they have recently “gone through a time of intense crisis” and have begun treatment for “complex mental health issues”.

The statement read: “I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment. I want to apologise to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behaviour. I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe and productive stage in my life.”
