Good Morning Britain hosts Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard welcomed environmental scientist Angela Terry onto the show to discuss rising concerns about conservatories.
It has been discussed in recent reports that getting rid of conservatories can help save the planet and Angela also stated that it would help protect public health and safety.
However, while she was discussing the fact that she believes conservatories should no longer exist, she pointed out that she was sat in her own – and fans, along with Susanna, were left utterly gobsmacked.
After telling the hosts that her concern is global warming and predicting that high temperatures of 39 degrees will be consistent by 2050, she explained her reasons for not wanting conservatories anymore.
Angela said on Thursday morning’s show: “It’s a real problem when we’re talking about future proofing because if a developer is building a house today and putting out a conservatory, you would assume it’ll be around in 30 years time.
“So it’s about having a no regret policy. One they’re up, we know people don’t want to take them down, which is fine.
“Obviously I’m in my conservatory here. When we bought the house it was here. So yeah, we’re just trying to keep people safe.”
A gobsmacked Susanna immediately cut in as she shared her shock that Angela was sat in her conservatory while doing the segment.
She said: “You’re saying you’re alright in your conservatory. Your conservatory is still going to stand but nobody else is allowed to have one from now on.”
Angela responded: “This house came with the conservatory on it. What the new legislation is saying is not to build new ones because the world is getting warmer and warmer.”
However, while she rationalised the scenes, viewers couldn’t help but share their thoughts on her online.
One person wrote: “‘Nobody can now build a conservatory on their homes’. Says environmentalist lady sat in her conservatory. Hypocritical. Do as I say, not as I do.”
Another said: “People are so dim loool how is this lady telling people they can’t have a conservatory… whilst sitting in her conservatory?”
A third chirped: “Lol woman on ITV saying we should ditch conservatories… speaking from her conservatory. I didn’t realise comedy started so early in the daytime schedule.”
Angela finished her statement on being against conservatories as she said that she’s mostly concerned about people getting too hot and ending up in hospital.
However the defence against it was that people have “common sense” and would be able to recognise if their conservatory was getting particularly hot.
GMB continues weekdays on ITV.
