Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway couldn’t resist making a cheeky quip about her underwear as the presenters chatted about Machine Gun Kelly’s engagement.
Kate, Ben Shephard, Susanna Reid and Richard Arnold were reacting to the news that MGK had gifted Megan Fox an engagement ring that “hurt to take off” – featuring a crown of thorns which would hurt the skin to remove.
The musician explained in an interview with Vogue: “The concept is that the ring can come apart to make two rings.
“When it’s together, it’s held in place by a magnet. And then it forms an obscure heart. And you see this right here? The bands are actually thorns. So, if she tries to take it off, it hurts.”
He apparently chose to design the ring in that way because “love is pain”.
Susanna reacted viscerally to the news, while the others laughed it off as a “romantic” gesture.
But things soon took a turn for the cheeky as Kate changed the subject to her own knickers.
She joked: “I do often feel like I’ve got barbed pants on, but that’s more to do with weight control!”
Ben quickly joked: “Is that a sequel to [your book] The Joy of Big Knickers? The Joy of Barbed Pants?” – and, taking that as inspiration, Kate quickly began to scribble something on her notepad, telling her fellow hosts: “Actually, let me write that down!”
Kate published her autobiography – which dealt with the challenges and joys of ageing – back in 2017, before going on to write her hard-hitting memoir The Power of Hope last year.
Her second book explored Kate’s relationship with her husband Derek, after Covid-19 left him in a coma for almost a year.
And fans would surely be ecstatic if she chose to publish another book soon – after The Power of Hope topped book charts.
The book sold more than 22,000 copies in its first week.
It comes after Ben and Kate led tributes on GMB to a long-term staff member who made the decision to leave the show.
Floor manager Tim was waving goodbye to the ITV studio after 40 years, with Ben telling viewers: “Just a quick goodbye to our floor manager Tim who is leaving the show today, he has been with us for 40 years. We will miss you Tim.”
Kate added: “Let’s have a look at Tim, he’s been with us for 140 years – and Ranvir knows you very well.”
The camera went on to pan over to Tim, who gave his audience a wave.
Davina McCall – who previously worked with the floor manager – chimed in on social media to pay her own tribute to him, writing: “Oh my God Tim is leaving?? Floor manager extraordinaire. 40 years! Been in telly longer than me! GMB please give him a cuddle from me.”
GMB airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
