Helen Skelton takes subtle dig at Strictly Come Dancing after losing final to Hamza

Helen Skelton had a cheeky on-air pop at Strictly after losing in the final – during a stint on Channel 5’s Christmas On The Farm.

The Countryfile star made it all the way to the final of this year’s series of the hit BBC dancing show on Saturday (December 18) with her dance partner Gorka Marquez.

Helen and Gorka wowed the nation once more and racked up a perfect 40 score from the judges for their couple’s choice dance to Mein Herr from Cabaret.

But sadly it wasn’t enough, and instead it was Hamza Yassin and his dance partner Jowita Przystal who were voted winners by the public, despite getting the lowest total score from the judges.

Helen spoke out after the final while hosting a special edition of Channel 5’s Christmas On The Farm on Tuesday night (December 20).

Skelton headed to the Cannon Hall Farm in South Yorkshire with the likes of Escape to the Country star Jules Judson and brothers Rob and Dave Nicholson for the festive special.

It came after co-host Jules presented Helen with a consolation prize after her loss, a tongue-in-cheek ‘glitterbale’ trophy made out of hay; a fitting farm-themed take on the Strictly prize.

Asked whether she preferred the glitterball trophy or the ‘glitterbale’ trophy, Helen chose to snub the Strictly crown for the bale.

Jules asked her: “Which is more important, that or the glitterball do you think?”, to which Helen replied: “This means so much more to me!”

She added: “Joking aside, to have the support of you guys… it made it like our journey. Do you know what I mean? It made it our adventure.”

Jules said: “There is somebody who has absolutely smashed it on [Strictly]!”, but Helen revealed her TV farm pals seemed worried about her dance moves when told them she was doing the show.

She jokingly said: “Cheers for the confidence, guys!”

Jules heaped praise on her as he said: “What a journey you’ve been on.”

Helen said: “Thank you so much for all of your support and all of the support from the farmy army. Every week when you messaged and voted for me it made it so much fun, so thank you very much.”
