Jaime Winstone admits she told close pal Rita Ora she'd never appear on Masked Singer

The Masked Singer’s Jaime Winstone has revealed that she told Rita Ora she would ‘never compete on the show’.

The 33-year-old actress was unmasked as Firework in a double elimination over the weekend, much to her good friend and judge Rita’s surprise.

Jaime also appeared on Monday’s episode of This Morning, where she was grilled by presenters Phillip Schofield and Rochelle Humes – who insisted Rita should have recognised her.

Phil said: “Your friends call you pocket rocket, don’t they?”

In response, the Dead Set star replied: “Yes. And actually, Rita does call me Firework sometimes.”

As Phil and Rochelle continued to share their incredulity that Rita hadn’t recognised her, Jaime leapt to her friend’s defence and revealed that she previously told Rita she would never appear on the show.

Of Rita, Jamie said: “I don’t think it’s her fault.

“She’s asked me before, ‘would you ever do it?’ And I always said ‘[no], it’s not my thing.’

“I’m normally British, gritty drama so this was just a breath of fresh air for me.”

Following her unmasking over the weekend, Jaime taunted a stunned Rita and said: “I can’t believe you didn’t get me.”

She was booted from the competition alongside football icon Michael Owen, who was unmasked as Doughnuts during the same show.

Speaking about the reveal on This Morning, Jaime also confirmed that Rita had been “really annoyed” she hadn’t guessed her identity as Firework.

She said: “I think [Rita] was really annoyed at herself actually.

“She’s very competitive so she was annoyed that she missed it but I think [the clues] steered her off quite nicely.”

Of her “exhilarating” experience on The Masked Singer, Jaime added: “It’s very surreal, the whole experience.

“It’s very trippy… and then you really get into it and start thinking, ‘this is actually really interesting’ – especially after the pandemic and not being able to perform or entertain or get that fix of what you need as an artist.

“This was just very surreal.”

This Morning airs from 10am on weekdays on ITV. The Masked Singer airs on ITV.
