Jurassic Park child actor unrecognisable 28 years after playing little Tim Murphy

Jurassic Park star Joseph Mazzello is unrecognisable now, 28 years after playing Tim Murphy in the cult classic dinosaur movie.

The star, now 38, has stuck around in Hollywood though, unlike many child actors, and recently played Queen bass player John Deacon in Bohemian Rhapsody.

Fans will remember young Tim and his sister Lex, who was played by then-14-year-old Ariana Richards, as they tried to stay alive inside the killer park.

Joe was just 10 years old when he took on the role, but it was far from his first, as he nabbed his first movie credit in the 1990 TV film Unspeakable Acts.

In the 28 years which have passed since Jurassic Park, Joseph has – obviously – grown up and looks completely different.

But his time on Jurassic Park certainly came in handy later in life, as it’s reported that the film’s director Steven Spielberg recommended him for a place at the USC School of Cinematic Arts in 2001.

And Joseph joked that the money he made for his brief appearance in the 1997 sequel The Lost World paid for his tuition.

Joseph has been acting since 1990, but took a break from films in 2001, instead picking up a few small television roles while at USC.

The star has had roles in The Social Network as Dustin Moskovitz, G.I. Joe: Retaliation as Mouse and, most notably, as Queen bassist John Deacon in Bohemian Rhapsody.

His television roles have been less regular, appearing in odd episodes of shows such as CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Person of Interest and Elementary.

Though he has had larger roles in The Pacific and last year’s Impeachment: American Crime Story.

His early career saw him bag a number of awards, including a Young Artist Award and a YoungStar Award.

But in 2019 he got another nod, this time at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, for Bohemian Rhapsody.

Sadly, the cast lost out to that of Black Panther.
