Superstar Lizzo has opened up about her close relationship with One Direction heartthrob Harry Styles after the pair’s wild performance at Coachella.
The 34-year-old American singer joined hosts Gethin Jones and Lauren Laverne on BBC’s The One Show to promote her upcoming tour and Amazon Prime TV show, sending fans into a frenzy when she began talking about Harry.
When asked about her relationship with the singer, Lizzo revealed: “We’ve been cool for a minute. When he covered my song and I covered his song we’ve been fans of each other and fast friends.”
Speaking about their surprise appearance on stage at Coachella, which saw her join Styles on stage to cover Gloria Gaynor’s I Will Survive and One Direction’s What Makes You Beautiful, she said: “He asked me to come he had an extra Gucci coat lying around so I was like alright I’ll come and wear it and sing with you.”
Fans immediately took to social media to express their excitement at the pair’s unlikely friendship.
“This Coachella moment and memory will go down in history @Harry_Styles & @lizzo were absolutely on fire. Thank you We loved this so much!!!! Glad you are friends,” gushed one viewer.
Another said: “Absolutely LIVING for Lizzo being friends with Harry Styles. That’s the kinda energy this world needs right now.”
While a third put simply: “LIZZO IS TALKING ABOUT HARRY ON THE ONE SHOW!!”
Lizzo recently shared why she has not yet done a show with the former boy band member despite being friends with him for so many years.
“He did a cover of ‘Juice,’ and I did a cover of ‘Adore You,’ and then we did ‘Juice’ together, and I was going to do a show with him, and his show got rained out by hurricane rain in Miami, so we never got to scratch that itch.”
Viewers were left in stitches halfway through Lizzo’s interview after Gethin Jones appeared to mispronounce Lizzo’s name.
When introducing the Juice singer to the show, the Welsh presenter announced the star’s name as Leezo.
“At least pronounce Lizzo correctly lmao #theoneshow,” laughed one viewer.
“OMG was that his accent or does he just not know how to pronounce her name I’m dying,” quipped another.
Lizzo’s new TV show, Watch Out For the Big Girls, documents the singer’s journey to finding fuller sized women to appear as dancers on her upcoming tour.
