Love/Hate star Stephen Clinch dies aged 52 as tributes pour in for Irish actor

Love/Hate actor Stephen Clinch has suddenly passed away at the age of 52.

The popular Irish star, who was best known for his role as criminal Noely in the hit Irish crime drama Love/Hate, was found dead in Dublin on Tuesday (May 24).

Devastated fans, fellow actors and writers flocked to social media to share their heartfelt tributes.

Love/Hate star John Connors wrote on his Instagram story: “One of the funniest and most decent people I’ve ever known. As loyal as a friend you could ever want. Love you Clinchy. Will miss you always. Rip.”

Director Mark O’Connor, who worked with Clinch on Cardboard Gangsters, remembered his pal as one of the capital’s “realest legends”.

He wrote: “You made mistakes but you came through them. An incredible actor, the only one to star in all my films & Darklands.

“One of the funniest people you could ever meet never asked for nothing and gave everything.

“Today Dublin has lost one of its realest legends. RIP my pal Clinchy”.

A fan commented on the post: “A legend in Irish Film and TV.”

Another fan tweeted: “Stephen Clinch, an incredible actor. There are not too many out there able to perform and impress in that way. May he rest in peace.”

Stephen had a great career in TV, starring in Cardboard Gangsters, King of the Travellers, Stalker and more recently, Darklands.

The dad-of-three from Kilbarrack, North Dublin, will be laid to rest on May 28.

The 52-year-old actor also served time in 2016 for an armed robbery.

He previously said returning to crime was the “stupidest thing” he ever did and sorely regretted it.

He said: “I’m the worst eejit for doing what I done. I had no reason to do it.

“I was quite content in my life, I was getting a good bit of work. I was getting a good bit of film work, I was doing all good things, everything was great for me and then I just drifted back into that madness, you know?”
