MAFS UK's Marilyse still feeling effects of major organ donation ahead of marathon

Marilyse Corrigan is preparing to run the London marathon on Sunday, October 2, just 11 months after having major surgery to donate a kidney.

The Married At First Sight UK bombshell donated her kidney to an unknown woman, in return for her former partner and the dad of her two children to receive a kidney transplant.

Her former partner, Shayn suffers from polycystic kidney disease, meaning several cysts can grow which ultimately reduces the function of the organ and can lead to failure.

After years of delays due to the coronavirus pandemic, Marilyse was able to go under the knife to save the life of another person but also save Shaun’s life.

Speaking exclusively to the Daily Star about the operation, she said: “I probably don’t realise how big it is sometimes, that’s probably with me doing the marathon, I suppose.

“I spoke to somebody the other day and they were like ‘Have you got your doctor’s approval?’ and I was like ‘No but my doctor did say to me about two months after I donated that I could go back to life as normal’.

“Recovery, it’s gone at a steady pace and I think I feel practically back to normal now, it has had a few bumps when a few weeks I’ve felt quite lethargic and drained – the next week I could be bouncing around.”

Speaking about the marathon, Marilyse said: “I just feel like I’m going to turn up in London, join a load of people and go for a jog for four plus hours and enjoy the sights of London, I’m not going to put myself under any pressure.

“I heard that the crowds do carry you and the fact there are other people doing it if I’m in the gym on the treadmill and there’s someone next to me, in my head, I feel more motivated.

“It’s a challenge, I’m hoping that I can achieve it but it is a mental and physical challenge and of course, I had an operation 11 months ago, so my challenge is being able to do this. I’ve never done a marathon before.”

Marilyse hopes to complete the marathon in around four hours

Discussing her decision to donate a kidney to save her exes life, she explained: “I promised that I’d do it and I never break my promises, especially with something so serious.

“I knew I 100% wanted to do it and that I was going to do it, it was just a matter of time.”

But while many have turbulent relationships with ex-partners, this isn’t the case for Marilyse and Shaun who support one another and acknowledge that their relationship will impact their two children.
