Maisie Smith is set to make her musical theatre debut alongside professional ballroom dancer Kevin Clifton as she joins the cast of Strictly Ballroom The Musical.
During Wednesday’s (May 25) instalment of Lorraine, the beloved Scott welcomed the dancing duo onto her iconic sofa to talk about their upcoming tour directed by none other than long-standing judge Craig Revel Horwood.
The pair previously won the Strictly Come Dancing 2019 special for Children in Need with the EastEnders star, 20, returning to the main show the following year where she stormed her way to the finals.
But it wasn’t a given that the former pro dancer, 39, revealed would get the part simply because he competed in the BBC One dance competition, after he confessed the stern TV judge required him to audition for the part.
He told viewers: “I still had to audition for the show. Obviously Craig has never seen me act and sing but he’s seen my dancing isn’t half bad over the years.”
The TV star went on to reveal that Maisie “smashed her audition” after she wowed viewers with her impressive dance moves on the Strictly Live Tour earlier this year.
Maisie went on to gush over her dance partner who helped her kickstart her journey on the beloved TV show more than four years ago.
She added: “Obviously we met a couple of years ago and I started my brief Strictly journey with you so it’s only fitting that we get to continue it now in a musical.”
Craig – who is set to direct and co-choreograph the show – said he was “delighted” to see her join cast of the show which is set to launch this Autumn.
He said: “I’m delighted that the super talented Maisie Smith is joining Kevin Clifton on the Strictly Ballroom UK tour.
“I can’t wait to see them dance together again. Expect some sexy moves, sizzling costumes and a simply sensational evening! I know that they’ll both be FAB-U-LOUS!”
The musical is based on Luhrmann’s 1992 film which follows an unlikely romance between Scott Hastings and Fran on the heart of the Australian ballroom dancing scene.
It will include hit songs such as Love Is In The Air and Time After Time with the tour also promising new songs by songs such as Sia, David Foster and Eddie Perfect.
