Piers Morgan invites Boris Johnson onto TalkTV show two years after GMB 'fridgegate'

Piers Morgan has invited Prime Minister Boris Johnson onto his new show two years after the infamous “fridegate” incident.

The PM famously earned himself the nickname “fridge-hider” by Piers, 56, after he ducked away when asked to do an interview on Good Morning Britain back in 2019.

He was asked to do an interview with then GMB host Piers and his co-star Susanna Reid but didn’t appear to be very keen on the idea.

When a reporter from ITV asked him to appear live on TV, his head of press could be heard saying “for f****’s sake”.

Later on, Mr Johnson tweeted: “Vote to honour the promises of the past and for a brighter vision of the future. Vote Conservative tomorrow.”

“I haven’t spoken to Boris in an interview format since 2015 so we’re seven years now Boris. I’ve even done Donald Trump six times in that time.

“Where are you Prime Minister? What are you scared of? Get out of the fridge and get on Piers Morgan Uncensored. I’ll give him a fair crack of the whip.”

He continued: “I’m not there to brutalise him and frankly if he can’t handle an interview with me, then he shouldn’t be running the country.

“There will be no boycotts. If any of them try any of that lark they’ll be banned for life.

Fans will remember roving GMB reporter Jonathan Swain asked Mr Johnson: “Will you come on Good Morning Britain and deliver on your promise to talk to Piers and Susanna?”

“We’re ready to go, we’re live on ITV right now.”

When Mr Johnson’s head of press Rob Oxley said “oh for f***’s sake”, Mr Swain later said: “Do you want to tone your language down as well because people are watching this this morning.”

The reporter again asked if Mr Johnson would appear on the programme, to which he replied: “Of course I will.”

He’s then seen walking away after loading crates into a vehicle at Greenside Farm Business Park.

Mr Swain asked for an interview once again to which Mr Johnson says: “I’ll be with you in a second” and then he walked into a fridge with staff from the business park.

Piers later said that Mr Oxley called in to the show to complain that he did not assault the reporter.

“He didn’t assault our man Swain, alright he didn’t assault him, what you were was extremely obnoxious, very aggressive, foul mouthed and repulsive,” Mr Morgan said.
