Piers Morgan slams Harry for skipping royal engagements while attending US celeb events

Piers Morgan has blasted Prince Harry after he confirmed he would not come back to the UK to attend a service for his late grandfather, Prince Phillip.

The Duke of Sussex’s representatives revealed yesterday (Friday 11) that he will not be returning to the UK later this month for the Duke of Edinburgh’s thanksgiving service at Westminster Abbey.

He had been expected to attend the event on Tuesday 29 March along with other members of the Royal Family.

And it was only hours later that firebrand TV presenter Piers landed blows on the California-based royal, taking to Twitter to cast doubt over his commitment to The Firm.

He shared his thoughts with his 7.9 million followers on the social media site by quoting a tweet from ITV royal editor Chris Ship and adding his own personalised ’emoji checklist’ to illustrate Harry’s record of attendance at recent high-profile events.

Piers placed a tick emoji next to two rows titled “Super Bowl” and “Texas Rodeo”, and contrasted this with a red cross emoji next to one that read “Grandfather’s service”.

It was a clear attempt to draw attention to Prince Harry’s American priorities, and many in the replies appeared to agree with his assessment of the situation.

One spared their thoughts for of the Queen on the upcoming anniversary of her husband’s passing, writing: “Very hurtful for HM The Queen, but I’m not surprised.”

While another drew attention to Harry’s recent furore over the lack of police protection for future returns to the UK, and commented: “But if he is attending a Royal event he will be under their security so what is the problem?”

Another penned: “He will regret it someday. He needs to go visit his grandmother, period.

“He gave up his title, gave up his job, humiliated his family in front of the entire world.

“I have no sympathy for him. He gets what other civilians get.”

Others disagreed, and one said in the replies: “Didn’t know the Super Bowl and Texas Rodeo were held in the U.K. this year, which is where he has the security concerns”

Piers’ comments are the latest in his often sharp criticism of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, with his dramatic departure from Good Morning Britain last year coming after he made polarising staements about Meghan Markle’s comments on her mental health.
