ITV viewers were left angry after the channel’s coverage of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee left them less than impressed.
The massive celebration was held on 15 May from 8pm until 10:40pm, but some thought the timing was inappropriate for a “family” event.
Phillip Schofield and Julie Etchingham presented for ITV during the Platinum Jubilee festivities, which featured big name A-listers such as Tom Cruise, Helen Mirren, Katherine Jenkins and Gregory Porter.
Despite the famous faces, many of the audiences at home didn’t think the coverage was up to scratch.
Some of them called the hosts “cringe” and moaned about the “camera work”.
They were so upset with how the channel handled things that some of them asked ITV to hand over responsibilities to the BBC for future Jubilee occurrences.
One viewer wrote: “I hope BBC covers future Jubilee events as ITV coverage tonight is dire. Canned laughter, badly timed camera direction, cringeworthy commentary. I’m all for the Queen’s Jubilee but she deserves better than this!”
Another said: “Absolutely appalling camera work and lighting at the Platinum Jubilee this evening. The BBC needs to have this sort of event back immediately.”
An irritated viewer tweeted: “Not really getting the whole ‘Gallop Through History’. Is it live? Isn’t it? Why such a late start, not a family show? Even Phillip Schofield is not saving this car crash. Poor editing by ITV and stop the sodding slow motion!”
One said that the show “may be really good” but it is “impossible for them to tell from what is being screened” on ITV.
They complained that the horse parade was “hidden from view” while another segment after adverts left audiences “in the middle of a routine” so they had “no idea what was happening”.
However, others were praising the celebrations as one fan penned: “Wow, just wow. What a way to start the Platinum jubilee celebrations. The Queen is a very special lady and whatever your thoughts, she’s worked a job for over 70 years.”
Someone else said: “Absolutely loving The Queens #PlatinumJubilee Celebration on #ITV. So many amazing and inspirational performances, wow. Congratulations to you all.
“It’s so heart warming to see Her Majesty enjoying it too and smiling. A wonderful evening of pomp and pageantry.”
“Wow those drummers on the Queen’s platinum Jubilee celebrations were absolutely amazing!” a third praised.
The Queen attended her celebrations and was seen using a walking stick as she arrived.
She arrived at the castle arena at the Royal Windsor Horse Show grounds for A Gallop Through History, dedicated to her love of all things equestrian.
The monarch was joined by Prince Edward, her youngest son, and the crowd cheered as the 96-year-old as she stepped onto the red carpet.
