Simon Cowell pays tribute to 'charismatic' Darius Campbell Danesh after tragic death

Music mogul Simon Cowell has shared a heart warming tribute following the unexpected death of Darius Campbell Danesh.

The professional singer who appeared on Popstars and Pop Idol alongside Simon tragically passed away on August 11, with his family confirming the sad news earlier today in a statement.

After the announcement of his death was released, a string of celebs have shared their condolences, including Simon who previously auditioned Darius in 2001.

In a statement via PA, the father of one said: “I first saw Darius on television over 20 years ago and I got to know him really well.

“He was charismatic, funny and just a great person to be with.

“His passing, for someone so young, is an absolute tragedy and my heart goes out to his family and friends.”

Television judge Nicki Chapman, who was also on the judging panel alongside Neil Fox and Pete Waterman also took to Twitter to share her respects.

She wrote: “There will only ever be one Darius Campbell Danesh

“A true gent with a kind soul & mischievous tinkle in his eye.

“From that eventful first audition on Popstars to him kindly inviting me to see him perform on the West End stage.”

She concluded her message by saying: “Thoughts are with his family at this sad time.”

Music manager Pete Waterman also spoke about Darius’ passing while appearing on Talk TV and said he wanted to get back into the music industry.

He explained: “Yes, I spoke to him, I had tea with him two days before lockdown on the Wednesday before and we went to tea.

“I met him… he was full of ideas. He wants to get back into the music industry, wanted me to go over and look after him and mentor him through his meetings.”

He finished off by saying: “The guy who sang Hit Me Baby One More Time and changed television.”

Neil, 61, who was a judge on Pop Idol recalled: “He had been such a big character on that first Pop Idol series.

“We lived near each other and often met up as his career moved forward with some big chart hits and West End shows.

“He was a charming guy — super-polite, very witty and a real hard-working pro who had set his sights on getting to the top.

“He talked with huge affection about his mum and dad and always wanted to make them proud.”

Darius’ family confirmed that the singer was found dead in his apartment in Minnesota.

The statement that was released read: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Darius Campbell Danesh.

“Darius was found unresponsive in bed in his apartment room in Rochester, Minnesota, on August 11 and was pronounced dead in the afternoon by the local medical examiners’ office.

“The local police department have confirmed that there were no signs of intent or suspicious circumstances.

“The cause of his sudden death is unknown at this stage while medical examinations continue.

“We ask that you kindly respect our wishes for privacy at this time whilst we come to terms with the tragic loss of our son and brother.”

Since the news of passing came to light, fans have also taken to Twitter to share their condolences.

With one person writing: “So sad to read about Darius Danesh Campbell’s passing. He had an amazing voice with such a great range. A lovely guy who loved his family so much. Bless you Darius.”
