Spice Girls star Melanie C has pulled out of her New Year’s gig in Poland due to the country’s LGBT issues.
The singer took to social media to reveal why she came to this decision – and was in turn flooded with support from her fans.
She wrote on Facebook: “In light of some issues that have been brought to my attention, that do not align with the communities I support, I’m afraid I will no longer be able to perform in Poland as planned on New Year’s Eve.

“I hope to be back there very soon. Hope you’re all having a wonderful Christmas and best wishes for 2023. Melanie xxx”
The comment section was flooded with support, with one writing: “Thank you for standing by your beliefs and always supporting our community XO”
A second added: “One of us was fired from this TV channel because of being gay. As much we would like to see you in Poland, we are extremally proud and happy that you refused to perform in this full of hate to LGBT national tv. Thank you for your support!”
While a third penned: “Melanie C bravo! Polish television persecutes gays, as well as anyone who has different views from the current views. The fact that the LGBT community is constantly humiliated by politicians, including the president of Poland.”
“Thank You, Melanie. It is really important what you’re doing right now. Thank You and best wishes and a lot of love from Poland,” a fourth shared.
A fifth put: “I was living in Poland for 2.5 years, even though is an amazing country with amazing people, it’s really scary the government policies against LGTBQ+ community, as a Gay guy, I found really difficult sometimes to live there and was a key point on my decision to move abroad. So much respect for your decision, you are AMAZING.”
“Good decision. by refusing TVP you will gain more fans in Poland than if you performed there. no normal Pole watches this propaganda television that is at the service of a discredited government,” a sixth posted.
One other fan wrote: “Thank you, Melanie. I’d love to see you in Poland but not in this regime television. I do hope you’ll be able to perform in Poland soon. Girl power!”
