Strictly's Carlos Gu emotional after breaking own record with Molly Rainford

Strictly Come Dancing professional Carlos Gu broke down in tears after achieving his highest ever score on the BBC show.

Chinese dancer Carlos, who joined the series this year, had just danced an incredible Charleston with former BGT star Molly Rainford, his dance partner.

The duo were absolutely thrilled to scoop up a whopping 38 points from the judges, with Motsi Mabuse and head judge Shirley Ballas awarding them 10 points.

Craig Revel Horwood and Anton Du Beke were also impressed with the performance and awarded the pair nine points each.

It came at a great time, too, because they were in the quarter-finals of the competition, where every point matters if you want a chance at bagging the glitterball trophy.

The pair couldn’t contain their excitement as the scores rolled in from the panel as they jumped up in the air and hugged eachother tightly in celebration.

It was all too clear that the achievement meant the world to Carlos as he started weeping with joy during his hug with Molly.

Host Claudia Winkleman noticed he was crying and pointed out: “I have to say it means so much to you, but Carlos is sobbing because you are so happy with your highest score. I just wanted to note it.”

She congratulated the couple as she added: “Well done to both of you.”

Carlos and Molly were the first to dance on Friday night, blowing away the nation with their Charleston to Hot Honey Rag from the musical Chicago.

After the dance, Molly told Claudia: “I’m so happy as I was really nervous and felt like I was back in week one again. I was opening the show, especially on a week like this, so I just feel so blessed and grateful.”

Claudia nodded before adding: “This is the one you wanted to do.”

Molly heaped praise on her partner, hailing him the “best teacher” who has boosted her confidence.
